New search filters for car camping, rooftop tents, and truck campers give vehicle-based adventurers more accurate results and clearer expectations. The update also improves access details and reflects the growing diversity of rig types on the platform.
Hipcamp, the world’s #1 app for finding and booking campsites, has expanded its search filters to include more rig types, adding car camping, rooftop tents, and truck campers to Hipcamp search and profiles.
The update gives campers with smaller or harder-to-classify setups a more accurate way to search for the right campsite, instead of forcing them into broad categories like “tent” or “RV.”
The feature is already live on Hipcamp’s website and rolls out in the latest app update on March 12, with users able to save rig details to their profile for faster future searches.
In keeping with the change, Hipcamp’s “RV Type” filter has also been renamed “Rig type,” speaking to the broader mix of vehicle-based camping setups now using the platform.
Hipcamp has also improved the access details shown on listings, making it clearer whether a site is 2WD accessible, 4WD recommended, or 4WD required.
For overlanders, truck campers, rooftop-tent campers, and car campers, the benefit is straightforward: less guesswork, clearer expectations on campsite fit, and a search experience that better reflects how they travel.
