Outdoor adventures inevitably mean dealing with dirt, mud, and grime on gear, vehicles, and ourselves. We tested the battery-powered Rinse Off Explore portable water sprayer to see if its 4-gallon capacity and pressurized spray system can handle the cleanup challenges of multi-day outdoor excursions.

A universal problem that outdoor enthusiasts encounter is trying to keep their gear, their vehicles – and themselves clean.

Driving on dirt, sand and mud; it’s inevitable that both driver and machine find themselves dealing with some serious clean up time.

This is why having a portable water sprayer like the Rinse Off Explore can be incredibly useful. Whether you’re cleaning muck off your gear, your dog or yourself, this 4-gallon portable water shower is handy for cleaning up on the go.

Motorized Pressure

The self-powered Rinse Off Explore is equipped with battery-powered pressurization, delivering a consistent high-pressure spray to blast off tough to clean up jobs. Its simple operation allows you to pour in water, press the power button, and spray away.

Thanks to its internal 12-volt rechargeable sealed lead acid battery, Rinse Off Explore can deliver a continuously pumped pressure flow of 1.2 gallons of water per minute. Also, one full battery charge allows for up to 20 fill-to-empty cycles before needing a recharge.

Made with military-grade materials and a rotationally molded container, the Rinse Off Explore is built to withstand just about any task you put it through.

The tank has a unique shape that allows for its 9-foot-long hose to wrap around its “neck” for easy hose storage. We found that the Flexlite hose does not tangle and is easily wound and un-wound.

The multi-pattern garden hose-style nozzle has seven spray patterns and is held in place by an elastic rope when stored. It features a machined aluminum swivel to keep it from tangling up too.

The hose is BPA-free and safe for drinking; be sure to fill it with potable water if you intend on drinking from it.

In The Field

We brought the unit with us on a couple of trips and found that its 4-gallon capacity and ample battery life were more than enough to handle multi-day trips without the need for refilling or recharging.

Of course, water use will vary depending on your usage, but we used ours for a quick shower and spraying down of some gear and a couple of pair of muddy shoes.

One flick of the switch turned the pressurization on and within seconds we were spraying. We do wish the water pressure was a bit stronger, but with that said, the stream it presents isn’t anemic either.

We especially like how this cordless, portable unit is not stuck on the vehicle. This allowed us to carry it away from the campsite to use so water puddles didn’t form in the campsite or the vicinity of our vehicle.

Final Thoughts

The Rinse Off Explore we tested is the battery-powered model; the company has a 12V DC plug-in model too if you prefer to use an externally powered unit. We were glad to have it with us on our trips, and hope to see a warm water version in the future.

We also really like that Rinse Off is made in the USA. If you’re looking for a portable, pressurized water shower system, to help hose off anything from mountain bikes to surfboards, the Rinse Off Explore is an option worth considering for your next adventure.
