Jay “Lightning” Tilles (0s):
Holman. I don’t know if you saw it, but my cyber truck is on the way from the factory to my house.
Sean P. Holman (5s):
I did see that. I was really excited when I saw the 4,752 photos of the one car hauler going down the road. The same truck that had four or five cyber trucks on it. Right. Whatever it was. And everybody’s like, it’s happening. They’re coming. It’s finally here. I’m like, oh guys, that’s, that’s the same single truck going down the road.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (26s):
Yeah. and I think they’re delivering those cyber trucks to a movie set. Yeah.
Sean P. Holman (29s):
Wasn’t it like rented or something? Somebody’s like, yeah, that’s not production. Those are going somewhere for some sort of marketing deal. Yeah.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (34s):
I, I suppose so. So I, the, the moral of the story is lightning’s not getting a cyber truck.
Sean P. Holman (40s):
Oh, I was just thinking the moral of the story was Lightning weights one more time. Yeah,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (43s):
That
Sean P. Holman (43s):
Too. Listen, if you are excited for your cyber truck, it’s getting closer. I don’t know when it’s gonna come.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (50s):
I don’t know if I am getting excited about a cyber truck because as it becomes more real, I realize I’m gonna have to make a decision. They have my hundred bucks. Am I actually going to spring for Don’t the other
Sean P. Holman (60s):
You don’t have money. So what,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1m 0s):
$99,900?
Sean P. Holman (1m 3s):
Well, listen,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1m 4s):
Whatever it’s
Sean P. Holman (1m 4s):
Gonna cost. Well, since the, the world is forcing us into EVs, your T Rx is probably gonna worth, you know, within the next two years, double what, what you paid for. And then you could get two cyber trucks.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1m 15s):
I know, dude, you talked about on the last episode, the TRX has gone up over $10,000 just this last year.
Sean P. Holman (1m 21s):
I know
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1m 22s):
I made money.
Sean P. Holman (1m 23s):
Yeah. This is, again, this is the last year of the Hemi in the 3 92. I, I think I told you last time, some guy was arguing with me. He said, what do You know about it? and I’m like, okay, don’t believe me. And then, oh, I, it’s so,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1m 36s):
That’s so funny. What do You know about it? Yeah, all I do is eat, sleep and breathe trucks.
Sean P. Holman (1m 41s):
Don’t, don’t worry. Don’t, don’t worry about me, son. So here, here’s one today, I had a guy on one of the, the forums that I moderate and or the Facebook groups, right? So, I. Listen, you
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1m 51s):
Wait, you actually moderate a group
Sean P. Holman (1m 53s):
Like seven or eight of ’em. You do? Yeah. What? Yeah, I’m on a couple Jeep groups. I’m on the a EV page. I’m on, I help Christian out with the SCH pod page and So I just bought, oh, how do I get
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 4s):
You involved in the intro Show Podcast page? Well,
Sean P. Holman (2m 6s):
You had to send me an invite like everybody else did. So it was just, it was super funny because You know you get those people that just wanna argue and there’s like people Who are You, you’re on a fan page. Oh. And then also the Kevin Bean page. So I. I’m on all sorts of stuff. But here’s the deal. You have people who are, who are members of like a fan page, but then they wanna fight everyone in the room. Yes. It’s like, are you Dr. Like you came here as a fan, why are you angry?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 31s):
No, they didn’t come as a fan. They came angry.
Sean P. Holman (2m 33s):
Why are you trying to punch everybody else out? It’s so stupid. So 10 years off just and I. And this was, I think in the AV form and I, I’m a lot more professional in there ’cause I’m representing them and helping to moderate their group and, and whatever. So this guy came in and he was bitching about stuff, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So then he tells me, which I think is pretty funny. This
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 53s):
Is on the A EV Facebook group.
Sean P. Holman (2m 54s):
Yeah. On the, on Facebook. AAV
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2m 56s):
Owners.
Sean P. Holman (2m 56s):
Yeah. So he tells me, he goes, it’s literally identical to anyone that’s on a JKU Stop being obtuse AV owners seem to have the worst case of elitism that you typically only see with BM BMW drivers real shame. And it was over a sticker. Somebody put on their Jeep, like whatever So I wrote back You know at person as an obtuse elitist who won’t even drive my BMW behind a Jeep that isn’t an AV build. I’ll wear the shame for the remainder of my days as I slink slowly off into the sunset, defeated by yet another internet opinion.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 33s):
Nice comeback.
Sean P. Holman (3m 34s):
And he replies, owning A BMW tells me all I need to know about you. And it’s like, well, if you think I own a BM, bmw, You know nothing about me. Right. So did
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 42s):
You go back and forth with him? Yeah, I had. Of course you
Sean P. Holman (3m 44s):
Did. It was for sport. You took
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 46s):
Ba No,
Sean P. Holman (3m 47s):
It was for sport. And then I got all these people backing me up and Jason Broom listens to our podcast and gift us to Dr. Pepper fridge. He, he will follow me around in these groups and then like, he’s like the sniper, like he’ll see somebody I’ll,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (3m 58s):
So you set ’em up and he’s in the bushes. Just
Sean P. Holman (4m 1s):
Guerrilla warfare, just taking people out, which is pretty funny. So Jason throws it in his own thing. He’s your
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (4m 5s):
Wing man. But,
Sean P. Holman (4m 6s):
But he kind of is. Right. I never know where he is. When he is around though. He just sort of pops up and like takes the shot and then he disappears again. But this is what was funny. Go back and forth, a couple other people bounce in, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So I finally had like one more response to him.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (4m 21s):
Again, this guy is supposed to be a fan of aav, right? He’s in a fan group of aav, but he hates a EV people.
Sean P. Holman (4m 26s):
So it, the, the whole thing, AAV only puts their windshield decal on in-house builds. He can’t buy the decal. So it’s like a big thing for AV owners. Mine was built there. Buy them. I’ve got the windshield
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (4m 36s):
Together. So if you buy it at a dealership, no bueno. You don’t get one? No, no,
Sean P. Holman (4m 39s):
No. If AV built it,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (4m 40s):
Okay. But if you bought the parts, if you
Sean P. Holman (4m 42s):
Bought the parts
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (4m 43s):
Parts and you put it together,
Sean P. Holman (4m 44s):
You can’t buy a windshield banner. So that’s the thing, that’s the source of pride for AV owners, right? Because they’re like, yeah, I, I spent the, I stood up tall, I spent the money. I want people to know, like This is a factory bill. So AAVs really, like, they don’t, if I called them and said, which I have, I gotta replace my windshield. They’re like, yeah, we need a copy of the receipt for the windshield. Like they’re very tight about sending those stickers out. So it’s a big deal. So some guy had a bootlegged one on a JK that had every farkle known to man from like the AutoZone parts catalog. And so everybody’s like, well, I can’t look at this guy. Everything’s bootleg. Even his AAV suit. So that’s how the whole thing started. So this guy’s like, how can you guys be mad at a dude who has a sticker? It’s made from vinyl in China and like he just like goes off, right? And just, everybody’s an a-hole.
Sean P. Holman (5m 24s):
Everybody’s in lead. That’s the whole thing. So he basically says, You know if someone has a JKU with every part that AV sells, minus being put together at the factory and having the plaque that shouldn’t be allowed to rock a banner. I think that’s a bit ridiculous, right? So he’s thinking, everybody’s saying, it’s stupid. This guy has the banner. I’m like, All, right dude, enough’s enough. I was like 47 comments later. I’m, I gotta shut this down. And I wrote, I don’t think anyone would care if that’s the case, but a Jeep built from anything and everything. But AV parts like the one that started this post is a different story. Dude comes back then I agree with you. Misunderstanding of what you were saying. I guess
2 (5m 58s):
I won the internet today. I won the internet today. High five. I
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 3s):
Turned a dude. Wow. Yeah. That never happens,
Sean P. Holman (6m 6s):
Ever. I won the internet.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 7s):
Holy crap. You can never turn the haters. No,
Sean P. Holman (6m 10s):
I turned
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 11s):
Them. That’s nuts.
Sean P. Holman (6m 12s):
I turned, I checked this out. So Jason Broom, in the middle of this like big long thread sends a gif of the band button ban. Like ban ban. So I wrote back, nah, I have too thick of skin to ban. People are disagreeable, but they keep, because they keep the convos lively. But if disagreeable falls over the line of disrespect, then it’s a different conversation. I think he’s picking up what I’m putting down. So I. Think after he saw that, he was like, oh, okay. All, right? Yeah, So. anyway.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 36s):
Wow. He acquiesced.
Sean P. Holman (6m 37s):
I won the internet today. That is rare, dude. Thank
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 39s):
You. You know, that’s rare.
Sean P. Holman (6m 40s):
I I know that’s rare. Well, you have to take your victory lap when that happens. I
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 45s):
Wonder if we have listeners to this show that are just haters. Yes. They go in groups and they just try to drop grenades everywhere. Yes.
Sean P. Holman (6m 53s):
Right? Yes, of course we do. A hundred percent. Well,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (6m 56s):
I wanna call us up. Why, why do you do that is just more for them. Why are you, or they, are they just venomous or do they, do they not have the money for something they lust after? And it’s easier to show anger towards someone who does have that product?
Sean P. Holman (7m 9s):
Well, it’s all, it’s anonymous, it’s opinionated, whatever. And it’s the internet. You can’t get
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (7m 13s):
It. I tell, so when it’s on Facebook, I go on these pages and the guy’s hating, hating, hating. I click on his profile. What do I find every time? Super ultra conservative memes. And that’s it. There’s no picture of his family. There’s no friends, there’s no him on a beach or somewhere. There’s, it’s not even a real person. He just hides behind the keyboard. Rarely is it an actual human where you can say, oh, this guy actually drives this vehicle that he’s talking about that he says he has. Yeah, whatever. It’s just the keyboard warriors are just, it’s wild.
Sean P. Holman (7m 43s):
It,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (7m 44s):
I i it makes me, I it honestly, I try not to get angry,
Sean P. Holman (7m 48s):
But yeah, So I, I’ll say this like this is, this show’s about the, the truck industry, the truck sport, the truck community, however you wanna put it. We talk about it and it seems like haters in Facebook groups on the internet are a hundred percent a part of this as much as towing wrong, right? Yeah. Like, do we need a hater, sowed,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (8m 7s):
Dude, it’s crazy. The one that I deal with on a daily basis is, well, you, you work for Gale Banks who loves the EPA and he’s, and he’s making all of us have to have decent,
Sean P. Holman (8m 16s):
He makes love to the epa.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (8m 18s):
No, no. I’m like, I’m like, are you guys mental? Do you have any idea that he’s like on the verge of suing the state of California over the, over the California Resource board and their stupid rules and inactivity and all. They have no idea. We hate industry because you put, you put, there’s no emissions equipment on those engines that go in the joint light tactical vehicles. So you love the ep. I’m like, dude, we’re just taking orders from the government. They order these engines and that’s how they come and we put ’em in the trucks.
Sean P. Holman (8m 46s):
Exactly. Oh my God. People don’t understand that. They think there’s a, like ulterior mo it’s just business. Like sometimes it’s just
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (8m 51s):
Business. They, but they hate, they hate the EPA so much. They aren’t there. Listen, there’s so much that Gale Banks must be in the pocket of No, I’ll big
Sean P. Holman (8m 58s):
Government, I’ll say this, I think the, the EPAs mission is righteous. I think that they have gotten outta control because they aren’t balancing the needs of consumers and industry with environmentalism and Don. Don’t think that anybody who everybody I know who goes off road. You’re an environmentalist in the sense that I don’t go driving on trails. I’m not supposed to be on and I pick up Mylar balloons in the desert freaking all the time. In fact, I have a post that I’m gonna put on my Instagram because they blow out of the city. They go to the desert. The tortoises love the look ’cause they look like shiny flowers. They eat ’em and they die. So whenever I see Mylar balloons, I pick it up, throw it in my Jeep. if I see a can on the road, if I, whatever. So in that sense, I’m an environmentalist.
Sean P. Holman (9m 39s):
I don’t want dirty water. I don’t want smoggy skies. Like I don’t, I I think that there’s value to having that. If you’re rolling coal at a, at a tractor pole, I don’t care. That’s fine. It’s, it’s, it’s racing That’s different. But every day, I don’t need some dude blowing grandma off at the You know the bus stop with You know and giggling.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (9m 55s):
That’s just dumb. That’s not I know. But that’s not their argument. The guys that are, they’re pulling us out. No, my
Sean P. Holman (9m 58s):
Don’t. Yeah, but my point is this, my point is it’s the EP itself isn’t bad. It’s just where they’ve gotten, they’ve gotten away from, they’ve lost the trace and it’s become a power grab just like carb. And they stop doing things that, that are beneficial to the whole of society. Both from a consumer standpoint, an industry standpoint and an environmental standpoint. They’re not balancing anything. They’ve gone so far to one side that no other interests are being included in their decision making. That’s where people get mad. I don’t think people want poisonous water and dead animals and all that stuff. I love to go out to the middle of nowhere and, and see nature and all that You know. It’s just, but yet environmentalists have bad names because people think of ’em as these like blue-haired crazy people who You know wanna take away your, your cows and dairy and You know all that kind of stuff.
Sean P. Holman (10m 45s):
And it, it’s wild. It’s just gotten into some weird place. I
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 47s):
Don’t know. I I get that. But it’s just funny too, like the the guy who first put a turbo on a Diesel engine. Yeah, right
Sean P. Holman (10m 54s):
Engine.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (10m 55s):
I get it. I get a pickup truck like they’re calling him out. It’s just, but it’s daily dude. It’s like, oh. And they, because they believe a meme because some,
Sean P. Holman (11m 1s):
A-hole. No, it’s not the meme. No. What it is, it’s the 140 shiniest characters on Twitter X whatever. Nobody does any research anymore. You can argue that we have more information at our fingertips today than at any point in the history of civilization. And it’s a shiny tweet that gets people all fired up. Nobody does any background on it. Right? So if you’re a really good writer, you can own the world. That’s all I’m saying. Point being
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 24s):
That you got me all freaking fired up about this I know it’s ridiculous.
Sean P. Holman (11m 26s):
I won the internet today and that’s, that’s what we need to take away
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (11m 28s):
From this All. right? So that’s a we’ll end on a good note in this episode of the church. Show Podcast Holman and I went to t m I out in Corona, California for an open house. And we interviewed a lot of truck owners and Ross, who is the marketing guy over there. And we got a tour through the factory that’s very impressive and I think you’ll be entertained.
Sean P. Holman (11m 45s):
And then also we’ve been talking about for quite a while now, how we wanna do more with our listeners. And one of those initiatives is to start interviewing you guys. If you have a truck that you’ve had since new and you wanna give us a truck review, we wanna hear about it. So we’re gonna be checking in with Donald on the show. He’s got a Nissan frontier. No matter what kind of truck you have, we wanna hear from you. Let us know if you’re interested in coming on the show and doing 15 or 20 minutes. Talk about your experiences. win-lose drug, good, bad, ugly. We,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (12m 14s):
I’m kind of excited about the ugly. Yeah. I gotta be honest with you. Seriously, a guy’s like I just spent 75 grand on whatever, whatever. and I goes say, oh, just trouble. Everybody
Sean P. Holman (12m 21s):
Always asks us, well what about this your truck? I don’t know. Let’s ask our listeners. and you guys are driving ’em every day, whether it’s for work or fleet or your camping, maybe it’s a recreational vehicle, your daily driver. I, we don’t care. We just wanna hear from you on truck review. So we’ll do the first one of those on this episode and of course we’ve got some great news and we will check in with our inbox and read some emails from you guys. But
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (12m 41s):
First we want to thank Nissan, our presenting sponsor who has been here since the very early days of The, Truck, Show Podcast. We love the Nissan Titan 5.6 liter endurance V eight sounds. Oh so good. When you’re getting on the freeway on ramp, whether
Sean P. Holman (12m 54s):
You’re in need of a mid-size or half ton truck, you head over to Nissan usa.com where you can build a price. The Nissan Frontier and the Nissan Titan. The Titan comes with the industry’s best five year, 100,000 mile warranty. Or you can hit on down to your local Nissan dealer where you can sit in those scrumptious zero gravity seats. Do
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (13m 9s):
They call them Scrumps?
Sean P. Holman (13m 10s):
Yeah,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (13m 10s):
Absolutely. Is it on the your butt? Thingss are
Sean P. Holman (13m 11s):
Are flyer and I. Listen to that Fender audio system. Listen to your favorite podcast on that Fender audio system.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (13m 17s):
We sound better.
Sean P. Holman (13m 18s):
No,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (13m 18s):
We’re not funnier, but we do sound better.
Sean P. Holman (13m 20s):
I was gonna say that at the audio quality if not the substance. Yeah. What comes down to is your next truck could be waiting for you at the local Nissan dealer. And
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (13m 27s):
Another thing that’s waiting for you is better fuel economy. And how do you achieve that? Well, you’re driving a giant air pump that takes fuel to run. If you’re looking for better fuel economy, you start with the intake and you finish it with the exhaust. Look up your year, make and model at Banks power.com to find the Ram air intake that draws cool exterior air feeds it to your engine. The cooler, the denser the air, the more oxygen it packs and the bigger the punch, the better the output. And the biggest exhaust you can find is a five inch monster exhaust. Get that crap out the backside as fast as you can. I don’t know if Gale would approve that, but go to Banks power.com, type in your year making model to find yours.
Sean P. Holman (14m 4s):
And we’re gonna tell you one more time. If you are looking at your truck and you’re like, ah, I hate those wheels. Oh my tires are bald. and you need a little bit more style, a little bit more function, a bigger tire size, a better look, you got just lowered that Chevy three five. and you want a big old fat meat sitting under that step side in the back than you wanna head over to SD Wheel dot com. They do have the largest selection of in-stock wheels and tires. No matter the buildout they’ve got you covered. If it’s a pro street, if it’s a drag truck, if it’s a lifted truck, if it’s more off-road, more pre-runner, if it’s
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (14m 36s):
Short box, whatever’s on the
Sean P. Holman (14m 38s):
Ground, it doesn’t matter. They got it all. They’re not only gonna have the Wheel and tire that you’re looking for, but they will mount and balance and ship to you for free. Skip the hassle of going to the tire shop and save yourself hundreds of bucks by going to SD Wheel dot com,
3 (14m 52s):
The truck show. We’re gonna show you what we know. We’re gonna answer What? The truck, because truck rides with the the truck show. We have the lifted, we have the lower lowered and everything in between. We’ll talk about trucks that run on Diesel and the ones that run on gasoline. The truck show. The truck show. The truck show. Whoa Whoa.
5 (15m 23s):
It’s the truck show with your hosts Lightning and Holman.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (15m 39s):
Almost out of oxygen up here.
Sean P. Holman (15m 42s):
Why? ’cause you walked up a flight of stairs.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (15m 43s):
Yes. This is so impressive. Ross, welcome back to the show.
6 (15m 49s):
How you doing?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (15m 50s):
Fantastic. We are at t m I, interior
Sean P. Holman (15m 53s):
TMI. Automotive products. Automotive products.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (15m 55s):
There you go.
6 (15m 56s):
Manufacturing. Yes.
Sean P. Holman (15m 58s):
Corona, California in the, the epicenter of automotive aftermarket. It’s like a little hotspot here in Corona for all sorts of stuff. and you guys are right in the middle and we’re standing on the mezzanine inside a massive warehouse not only filled with bolts of cloth and fabric, but table after table for cutting patterns, sewing machines, stations, I, Mean, on and on. It just, it goes on forever. I think I see a a 64 and a half Mustang way off in the distance. What is that about three football fields away.
6 (16m 31s):
That’s, that’s exactly it. You know. And the neat thing is you can see just in front of it all of the, all of the cassettes. All the cassettes are all the molds for all of the, all the carousels over here. So we’re pouring foam over here and it’s going through our crushing machine from the crushing machine. Then it’s coming over here to our pro series that it’s getting wrapped with the vinyl that’s being all sewn together from our seamstresses right here in front of
Sean P. Holman (16m 58s):
Us. Okay. Two things I want to, I, you said some things I want to throw in.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (17m 1s):
Are you gonna point out, are you gonna point out the fact that we can see the curvature of the earth in this building? ’cause it’s so massive.
Sean P. Holman (17m 6s):
No, because the wall, the wall’s up. So the curvature is actually the floor of the factory. So what I want to point out is t m I makes amazing interior products for a host of things. Started with how would You know Volkswagens? ’cause all my 67 F 100 has a very dusty version of their interior.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (17m 21s):
It’s dusty. Nothing. I just had that detail.
Sean P. Holman (17m 23s):
No, thank
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (17m 24s):
You. I’m telling you it’s the cleanest it’s maybe ever been. by
Sean P. Holman (17m 26s):
The way, I was at Banks at the party. I didn’t see, I haven’t seen that truck in four years.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (17m 30s):
It’s because it was in what we call Aon four All. right. Well
Sean P. Holman (17m 34s):
Tell Ross that. We’ll make it up to him at some point. Anyway, point being, one day you guys make amazing interior products, seats, dash door panels, all that stuff right here in the United States. Corona, California. This is not your warehouse where you just stock SKUs. This is your manufacturing facility where you’re pouring foam, to your point, making tangible products. You have raw materials coming in that door and then you’ve got finished products and goods going out the other door.
6 (17m 60s):
That’s it. Not only are we making stuff here in Corona, but we also have a facility in Rosari, Mexico. So, you know, our, our low complexity, high volume stuff, You know lots of foam and seat frames all being produced down there, coming up here. And it helps us You know, speed up the assembly, You know, and getting products out at a more reasonable time. you know, general in the middle of
Sean P. Holman (18m 19s):
Covid and you do a excuse to go to Rosarito. There
6 (18m 21s):
You go man.
Sean P. Holman (18m 22s):
Log guino for for lunch. Right?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (18m 24s):
So they’re not doing the custom stuff. All the custom happens in this building right here. Correct.
Sean P. Holman (18m 27s):
Right. Let’s go down there for lunch and you can show us for sale. Trust my arm. Yeah,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (18m 31s):
By the way, we should say that you’re, you’re wondering the guys are, they’re saying that they’re in a warehouse, but I don’t hear any machinery. That’s because we’re here early on a Saturday morning for your car show and a what’s the sale that’s happening out here? So right
6 (18m 42s):
Now it’s our cars and clearance. We have, this is our second annual and we’re excited to be able to give everybody a really good deal on some doorbuster products that You know that stuff that was sitting in our overstock that somebody ordered and for whatever reason kibosh that order. So now we have this product and we’re able to offer it a really, really good deal. And so there’s already people taking advantage of those doorbuster deals right now.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (19m 8s):
Dude, you had Dolly after Dolly, like we had to Bob and weave to get
Sean P. Holman (19m 11s):
In building here, but it was like, it was like Walmart on Christmas Eve, dude. There were people brawling out in the parking lot and you know, it was no
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (19m 16s):
Television. It got ugly big boxes. I Mean. It wasn’t,
Sean P. Holman (19m 18s):
You guys missed
6 (19m 19s):
The line of people that were waiting to get in. It was unreal.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (19m 22s):
That was on purpose. Oh, of
Sean P. Holman (19m 24s):
Course, of course.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (19m 25s):
Okay, so let’s get back to this facility here because really it’s after the sale and the people listening, it’s too late. So sorry. Yeah, sorry. Yeah, sorry about that. You didn’t get in on it. But I want people to understand that t m I is a kind of a hybrid. It’s some custom and then some not pre-built, but like you’ve got a phenomenal website where you punch in your year make and model, right? and you can say I want these, one of these 10 designs that t m I has already created. Or I wanna mix and match. How does that happen? How’s the hybrid? Like what part of the business is just pumping out the same diamond stitch for a Camaro that you’ve done 10,000 of versus the guy who wants o
Sean P. Holman (20m 6s):
Double diamond. Double diamond
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (20m 7s):
Or ostrich or something strange, right? Or alligator.
6 (20m 9s):
Yeah. So when the brothers first started over 40 years ago with, with Volkswagens, it was actually just going after that OE replacement stuff. And then they also saw the custom side of things. So they started growing into the custom side of the Volkswagen business and did some really wild patterns from there going into Mustang. And so those first gen mustangs, again attacking that OE look and we still have a, a big large portion of our business is not only Volkswagen bugs but also Mustangs. It’s amazing how many people still want that OE look. But then there’s the guys that like, and you know, whether it’s Mustang Camaro and these guys want something really custom. And we love that because of course that that person, you know, that they’re speaking right to us.
6 (20m 54s):
you know, at that point in time now you wanna put in a brand new seat, not just reupholster the old stuff. Let’s put in a new seat with new seat foam so you don’t have to worry about that old foam that’s crushed and or the
Sean P. Holman (21m 5s):
Horse hair or,
6 (21m 7s):
Or the dandruff that’s coming out. Oh dude
Sean P. Holman (21m 8s):
Because
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (21m 9s):
Oh dude.
Sean P. Holman (21m 9s):
Because some hippie never washed his greasy hair
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (21m 12s):
Or actual dandruff.
Sean P. Holman (21m 13s):
Well it’s, it’s, you know, it’s like, it’s like a perfect example. My my kid you know, was gifted a a 60 and a beetle and we have to go rescue it and restore it and it had a deluxe interior. It’s a two-one interior car. and I was looking on the website. We want do like Gulf blue and you guys have a factory match to that oyster interior. Yes. That’s what oyster and cream. And on that car like I’ve already found the car and I’m like, this is how I want to do it. and I showed her and she’s like, oh my god. You know. She’s like, I don’t like blue cars, I don’t want to be yellow. I’m like, no, no, no, this is it. And then she’s like, wow. And and just seeing like how your, your interiors on the Beatle for anybody out there. ’cause I know there’s a lot of truck guys listening who have Volkswagens You know in the garage.
Sean P. Holman (21m 55s):
Yes, I I know you guys are out there ’cause I’ve I know a lot of you. But it, it’s like the perfect thing for a guy like me who’s like, I don’t have anything factory to work with. It’s all roached, it’s all been destroyed. I’m not gonna go find factory anything. And we don’t care about it being like a concourses rusto. We want it to be a driver. So for, for me in that situation, I’m sure for a bunch of truck guys too, I can come down here, I can get all the door panels, I can get the carpet, I can get the seats, I can a dash pad if there’s dash pad, I can get the headliner, I can get sun visors and now all of a sudden my roached car has a Brand new interior that smells great
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (22m 27s):
There.
6 (22m 27s):
There you go. You can’t beat that. you know. So we call it complete interior in a box. It’s not all vehicles that we offer a complete interior in a box. However it there is a lot, especially in a lot of trucks. I Mean, our truck business is really
Sean P. Holman (22m 39s):
Taken off well’s a lot simpler to do a regular cabs 67 to 72 Ford or Chevy Interior. Right? Sure.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (22m 44s):
Well proof is in the parking lot outside. Yes, there are. Amazing. Which you guys will hear shortly. We’re gonna go do some interviews in the parking lot. Gorgeous C tens. Gorgeous Ford. It’s like I am curious about the earliest vehicles that you make interiors for all the way to the most modern. I don’t know if I have a an eighties truck. Do you offer stuff for me? Why?
Sean P. Holman (23m 3s):
Yes, they do Lighting. Yes.
6 (23m 4s):
Actually, so in about 1948 is really when our product line really started and, and with that focus growing all the way to 98 with OBS. So 88 to 98, we just finished up that line little over a year ago with the 95 to 98 was this anomaly of the door panel. You
Sean P. Holman (23m 25s):
Worked on those door panels for a while? Yes. ’cause I saw many variations to try and get those door panel replacements just right. And they are just like oe But they give you the ability I think to add speakers and things like that in them. Right. Speakers
6 (23m 38s):
And then You know the complimentary insert to match your seats.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (23m 41s):
Yeah. What was so hard about that particular application? It
6 (23m 44s):
Was because of the electronics, the way it was set up in the door panel. So we’re trying to You know help, help the person save a little bit of money and not have to do a complete new control unit is like, let’s look at repurposing that control unit. And so to finally
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (23m 58s):
You’re talking about in the armes?
6 (23m 59s):
Yes. In the armes. Exactly. Thank you. And by doing that You know we’re able to bring the cost down, You know, and it ended up being a great launch at Seima last year.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (24m 8s):
So you basically take the plastic guts out of the, out of that armrest and then slip it into your new armrest? Yes,
6 (24m 14s):
That’s it.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (24m 15s):
Got it. So OBS is kind of where it tops out
6 (24m 18s):
For as far as the Chevy. But then we’ve got some newer Mustang stuff that goes up up to about 2006.
Sean P. Holman (24m 24s):
Okay. I want to, there’s a misnomer when people are specking out custom interiors. Sure. And that’s like, oh it’s vinyl, it must be cheap. So, I. I, I think I want leather. You actually don’t want leather because in a lot of, especially if it’s your driver, leather will start to crease fade if you don’t take care of it. If it’s sitting a lot and it’s dry, it’ll actually cause a lot of issues. A high quality vinyl is really the right way to go. You wipe it, it’s clean, it looks good. It’s more durable. You can do way more patterns with it. And so for people out there who maybe saw your site You know, obviously you have a bunch of different fabrics and materials, all sorts of that you can do. But on your basic seats, I don’t want anybody to discount the product because it’s vinyl. Because in most show trucks it’s all high quality vinyl.
6 (25m 5s):
There you go. And some, some of the old OE vinyls You know. So everybody has this idea that vinyl is like those old plastic oe, you know, materials and well old
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (25m 14s):
Vinyl is typically where you go into like an old diner, you know? Sure. and you sit on those semis shiny seats and they’re there’s
Sean P. Holman (25m 20s):
And roll baby roll. We like a spring in your butt. That’s
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (25m 23s):
Not what we’re talking about. No, this is totally
6 (25m 25s):
Different. So those, those vinyls we do have and you know those are perfect for, you know, some of those Volkswagen upholstery, you know that stock we look as well as the, the Mustang guys. So the Mustang guys You know they, they want that factory, they’re great. Not a problem. We have that. But when we start looking at into the custom scene. Yeah. And whether it’s OD or into our sport truck, You know vehicles right now that everybody now is realizing like, hey wow, I could save a bunch of money instead of going with leather, but let’s go with the premium vinyl. You
Sean P. Holman (25m 55s):
Have a luxury vinyl that’s actually soft to the touch. Yes. And a lot of people on some of the really high end stuff, it is hard to tell the difference between a leather and vinyl when you touch it. There you go. It’s really, really high end and I, and I’m not just saying that because I’m You know, I’m shilling for t m I. But in all honesty, some of your products are are amazing. Where I actually thought the first time I saw some of, I go, oh these are leather seats. He’s like, actually those are vinyl. and I’m like, there’s no way.
6 (26m 17s):
Right.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (26m 17s):
You know you didn’t get into a fist fight.
Sean P. Holman (26m 19s):
No didn didn’t bra, I took him as word a
6 (26m 20s):
Couple years ago. I got, my dad was over here and wa wanted to stay busy while he was hanging out in my office. And so he was wa walking around, he was wiping some stuff off and then he wanted to find some cleaner so he got some leather cleaner and he went to go clean our, oh I remember this, our vinyl. and I was like, no, no dad, what are you doing? No that’s vinyl, that’s not leathers. No way. He was so blown away. and I, it was the biggest compliment, like to see You know the, an older generation looking at, you know, this vinyl seat and he absolutely was dead set that that was leather and no dad, it’s vinyl.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (26m 56s):
Oh he’s got a rude awakening coming when he learns about ai. Right, right. Okay. Do you do leather or is it just like we don’t do leather because do.do.
6 (27m 5s):
Oh we do leather. But you know, it comes with a pretty sizable upcharge and so it just depends on You know what your palette and you know what you’re looking for. But at the end of the day when once somebody gets that estimate of what the leather costs All right? Yeah. Let me revisit that. Vinyl and how about that? Premium vinyl. Okay.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (27m 22s):
Yeah that’s sounds good. But you do have ballers that say I want leather do it. I don’t care about the price tag.
6 (27m 26s):
Exactly. It was extensive Metalworks You know and
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (27m 30s):
Oh out of, yeah. Texas out Texas.
6 (27m 32s):
Yep. So they had a C 10 last year that they wanted us to do nothing but white leather in the C 10. Awesome. Okay. So knocked it all out for them, turned out great. and I, I’m stoked that we got to be a part of the build, but again, for them they want it all leather. Okay. We did
Sean P. Holman (27m 47s):
It.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (27m 48s):
Alright, so we will head down the stairs and head out to the the truck show All. right,
Sean P. Holman (27m 53s):
Ross we’re gonna go like, like you said, go peruse the parking lot. Yep. Where do people go if they wanna find out more about t m I? Why
6 (27m 59s):
Don’t you go to TMI Products dot com and you’ll be able to see everything about the complete interior in a box.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (28m 5s):
So Ross, there’s a massive box over here, bigger than a refrigerator. And it says t m I molded foam tech.com. What is that? That’s
6 (28m 13s):
Our private label business. So we, we do all kinds of pri private label stuff, actually some with OE manufacturers. Other really cool stuff is the amount of casino seats that we do right here at t m I for one of our business partners.
Sean P. Holman (28m 27s):
So you basically are supporting the butts of blue hairs all over the world. That’s it. Oh,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (28m 32s):
I want that as a T-shirt supporting the butts of blue hairs.
Sean P. Holman (28m 35s):
You
6 (28m 36s):
Know it. It’s amazing the amount of stuff that we do here. Private label and some other custom stuff that I can’t talk about. But the, the neat thing is to see our assembly line knocking out. Not just seats but other really cool stuff. It’s awesome. Alright,
Sean P. Holman (28m 48s):
Thank you my friend for inviting us out here. We’re gonna go cruise around. And also, I’m helping you judge today on the Trimm Awards. Yes. And so that is, if you guys remember from last year we had Ross on at SEMA talking about the Trimm awards, which blew up this year into like a whole other thing. So it’s a full
6 (29m 3s):
Road show now.
Sean P. Holman (29m 3s):
Yeah. Right. So I think. I think we will.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (29m 5s):
How many of them are there?
6 (29m 6s):
So this is our fourth and final one. And today’s winner of this fourth and final stop here at t m I, the judges, they’re gonna deliberate of those four winners who is going to go to sema? We already have their parking spot already specked out for them. Right. Right out in front of Central Hall in the silver lot. We’re all
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (29m 24s):
Stoked. So for those of the, so for those of you that don’t know that they’ll actually be in the show, not a spectator. They’re in the show. In show right in in
Sean P. Holman (29m 32s):
The show. And there there are four shows. This is the fourth one where people put in for the award. And so it’s gotten down to the last group that gets, gets chosen today.
6 (29m 40s):
That’s it. So we’re really excited about that because the, the amount of following the response, the media that’s been picking up the stories, everybody wants to know, well who’s the champion? Like, well you gotta be patient Hold on
Sean P. Holman (29m 50s):
All. right. Well we’re going to talk to you at sema. Okay. And we’ll, we’ll follow up on Trim awards, but I just wanted to throw that in there because I want people to be aware that it’s happening, it’s going on. That’s part of what we’re doing today.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (29m 58s):
Well, since they’ve, they’re listening now and they’ve missed it. Holman, can they get in on next year? Will it happen again?
6 (30m 3s):
So technically if you are going to sema, you can enter for our trim awards at sema. ’cause now what it is that the person that Wins today, the championship automatically gets entered into the top 20 finalists. And, and so there’s 19 other spots that, that Sean and the rest of the judges will be picking You know to be in that, that top 20 list. And then of course they’re gonna start picking each of the class winners and the champion
Sean P. Holman (30m 30s):
All. right. I’m gonna go out to the parking lot of Lightning and we’re gonna find more top 20 trucks
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (30m 34s):
And donuts. Oh
6 (30m 35s):
Yeah baby.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (30m 38s):
What’s your name?
7 (30m 39s):
Rick Macias. 63 Suburban Ocker.
Sean P. Holman (30m 42s):
Is that a two door or three
7 (30m 43s):
Door? It’s actually a two door, but they call it barn doors.
Sean P. Holman (30m 46s):
Okay,
7 (30m 46s):
Okay. There’s two styles. They didn’t make two doors that metal, but there’s clems shell and there’s a knee knocker and there’s two doors. But the three doors, you’ve heard about the climb shells, correct? Yeah.
Sean P. Holman (30m 59s):
Okay.
7 (30m 60s):
But also too, the knee knockers are from 60 to 63. The climb shells are the different style. The barn doors will open up at the back. Okay. It’s got a 2 92 blew it about two years old coming down the road.
Sean P. Holman (31m 13s):
It happens.
7 (31m 14s):
With that said, I said if I ever gonna pull a motor out, I’m gonna put an automatic. So it’s got a 700 trans in it and it’s got less than 3,500 miles on the new motor. Little by little I’m getting there. As you see primary bumpers, I took out the windows from another parts vehicle. So, I have all windows that slide around all the way around and I. That’s awesome. It actually came outta New Mexico. It
Sean P. Holman (31m 35s):
Looks like the perfect patina on it too. and I. See you got the spotlight. Was this like a government vehicle?
7 (31m 40s):
Negative. It actually came that way outta New Mexico and everything on it works. Wow. So what was the
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (31m 47s):
Use for to have a spotlight? So the spotlight is in the dead center of the roof right between the driver and passenger. And it’s
Sean P. Holman (31m 53s):
A a a patina blue with the white grill and bumper and wheels. It’s just a really cool,
7 (31m 58s):
Back in the day you had no lights for mail ban or spot rotors. So it came with that and I love it. and I you’re
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (32m 4s):
Saying wait, you’re saying that with stock?
Sean P. Holman (32m 6s):
Yeah. You could get from, from the factory
7 (32m 7s):
Back in the day. Warm like that. What a spotlight.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (32m 8s):
Just like
Sean P. Holman (32m 9s):
Yes. All sorts of old cars right
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (32m 10s):
In the middle of the roof. Yeah.
7 (32m 12s):
And like I said, it might’ve been a government vehicle, but don’t forget on the side of the truck, if you look, look at us, is Reese Electrical on it? Okay. And if you look at it, that might’ve been one of the reasons why he had it on it. and you could very barely see the writing on it. ’cause the patina is on it. Just Yeah, just like that. And that’s what I love about the truck. But it’s actually tells
Sean P. Holman (32m 34s):
The story.
7 (32m 35s):
It does. And there’s another writing below that, but it’s out of New Mexico. If you look on the back of the, the barn doors, you’ll see the New Mexico’s branding on it. Back in the day they stamp had stamps of dealerships on em. It says, it says New New Mexico on it and it tells the dealership’s name on it.
Sean P. Holman (32m 54s):
So how long have you had this particular truck?
7 (32m 56s):
Since 2008.
Sean P. Holman (32m 58s):
And why did you buy this one? How did you find it? And and obviously you’ve kept it a long time. Had you been looking for one of these for a long time? Oh
7 (33m 5s):
Yeah. My dad had a 63 long bed pickup. He bought it used, he worked for Magic Corporation. So when he got it, I just loved it. I loved it. And when he passed away, I got it. But I met a guy in Craigslist and I thought I could trust a guy and he took me for a ride and he ended up getting the truck and he ended up selling it, taking it away. And he sold it off to, I’ll say to some auctioneer and it disappeared. Oh,
Sean P. Holman (33m 32s):
That
7 (33m 32s):
Sucks. It did. But like I said, it is what it is. So I picked up the suburban outta New Mexico to
Sean P. Holman (33m 37s):
Find it. So the the love affair continues with this one.
7 (33m 39s):
Oh yeah. Oh yeah. I picked it up. I’ve been hunting it down. I always left suburban So I picked it up. Then I was gonna convert the barn doors into clamshell. So I picked up two of them. But my parts guy brought me a G M C donor vehicle. The donor vehicle was a G M C and I couldn’t, I couldn’t cut that. G M C. Yeah. It’s against policy.
Sean P. Holman (34m 1s):
Against rules. It’s too, too precious. You
7 (34m 3s):
Don’t, you don’t cut up a G. M. C. Yeah. So then I ended up looking at that and I still got that one. And my parts guy told him, You know what, nothing beats the hell out of a double headlight coming at you. Yeah. Down the road. Old school. Yeah. So, I kept that one. and I looked at it and I looked it up and I said, You know what? I love the climbs. Shell So I picked up another G M C. I got that one too.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (34m 26s):
What? So you have what Matt Gamble at my office calls a DD Automotive Deficit Disorder. You keep buying them,
7 (34m 33s):
You can call what you want. and I got nine vehicles at the house.
Sean P. Holman (34m 36s):
I love
7 (34m 36s):
It. This is why I had to be in the garage at my house this past year. 22 by 26. But it’s, it is what it is. and you, it never gets old. You can buy diamonds, you can buy Brand new cars. They don’t even, as long as you got classic cars in your garage, something to work on. It’s all good.
Sean P. Holman (34m 54s):
Well thank you. We appreciate you sharing your passion with us.
7 (34m 56s):
Thank you guys. I enjoy your day. Take care. Thank
8 (34m 59s):
You. Beautiful suburban.
7 (34m 60s):
That looks like a stun
8 (35m 1s):
Gun.
Sean P. Holman (35m 1s):
Yeah. Right. Everything taser. People always
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (35m 4s):
Think that this recorder is a stun gun. Yes.
Sean P. Holman (35m 6s):
Well, no, no car. I got a four to It’s a Yeah, in the car. What, what kind of cigars do you like?
8 (35m 11s):
I don’t know the brands. I just buy. You
Sean P. Holman (35m 13s):
Just smoke? Yeah. Yeah.
8 (35m 14s):
Once in a while on cigars Daily I buy some cigars.
Sean P. Holman (35m 16s):
Oh nice. You get the sampler pack and you just go
8 (35m 18s):
Yeah. All. right. Just enjoy ’em once in
Sean P. Holman (35m 19s):
A while. Yeah. A little porch smoke. Yeah. All.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (35m 21s):
Right. What’s your name?
8 (35m 22s):
Tom Macias. I live in Fontana. Tom,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (35m 24s):
Congratulations on this Sea tan dude. This ctan
Sean P. Holman (35m 27s):
What year is gorgeous.
8 (35m 28s):
Thank you. Thank you. What year is this? It’s a 64. I bought it back in 2000. Sorry, 2013. Okay. I purchased it from an older gentleman in La Puente. He was asking for three grand and I says, man, will you take 1500? He says, no. So I walked away. And then two days later I was out doing some street work on his front yard. He came out and he was, Hey, I gotta get rid of my truck. If you want it, I’ll give it to you for 15.
Sean P. Holman (35m 54s):
Done. I said, sometimes pay,
8 (35m 55s):
I’m back with a tow truck today and I’ll take it. Yeah, yeah. and I go, you got title and everything goes, it’s all clean. Oh wow. It was complete. He just, he wasn’t, how can I say it nicely? He was a little off. Yeah. It wasn’t all there. It wasn’t all there. Yeah. He didn’t know what was wrong. But it had everything complete. And he goes, but it’s, it’s been sitting in my driveway for eight years. I don’t know what’s wrong. Yeah. So I towed it home, started going through it right away and we found out the tranny was bad. Okay. So I just started
Sean P. Holman (36m 20s):
Balloon tranny always a problem.
8 (36m 22s):
Start stripping it down. Everything did everything from front to bottom. Yeah. It wasn’t a cab off, but I just restored everything on it.
Sean P. Holman (36m 29s):
It’s beautiful. So what color is this?
8 (36m 31s):
I call it cement gray. Yeah. It’s a custom color. Okay. I chose when, when the truck was in the body shop getting done. Yeah. I painted my bathroom downstairs and this was the color my wife and I chose for the bathroom.
Sean P. Holman (36m 42s):
So this is the funny you should say that. There’s my house. The inside is a bare paint called Gentle Rain, which is this gray. And the reason I like this gray, I actually had a, a Jeep, my 20 Jeep wrinkle head. There’s a cement gray. They have called Sting gray, but I like it ’cause it’s not blue and it’s not brown. It’s really neutral. It’s like right in the middle. It’s a really neutral gray, but it’s a modern color on an older vehicle like this, these are the color’s really popular. But the way you pulled it off right now, now
8 (37m 6s):
So I painted this before you saw all these dark grays and light grays and, and
Sean P. Holman (37m 9s):
People were probably blown away by it, right? They
8 (37m 11s):
Were. Yeah. That’s one of the biggest compliments I get is my paint and the body work. So
Sean P. Holman (37m 14s):
This is a custom long bed. And so what’s cool about this truck is you don’t really see a lot of gorgeous long beds. The way you have this one is to me stunning with the, the contrast of the paint color, the wood in the bed. I Mean. This thing is polish is
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (37m 28s):
Aluminum, the
Sean P. Holman (37m 29s):
Chrome, everything. Thank you. It’s just, just right. The the chrome on the body side, the white accent I mean you look at this thing and it just, it just looks, you know, to the, to the nines. It’s just, it’s awesome man. It is really pretty.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (37m 42s):
And this is not on air. This is fixed. It’s static
8 (37m 45s):
Suspension. That’s correct. No air. I was just talking to this gentleman about airbags, but I get a lot of people saying, you don’t need airbags. It sits beautiful the way it does. I could hit 80 on the freeway right now and it ride’s great. Yeah. It’s not a rough ride. It’s not all bouncy. Yeah. It’s a good ride. I’m
Sean P. Holman (37m 60s):
Not even the interior’s awesome you guys. You have an awesome bench sitting there, but you got the Mexican blanket and you actually have the color of the truck is in the colors on the blanket and the blanket pulls out a little bit of orange and red. It’s so, it’s like so perfect. Thank you. It’s so perfect. I love that.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (38m 13s):
That’s a t in my interior
8 (38m 15s):
Or no, it is not. It is the original bench seat. But it was destroyed. So. I took it to a posty shop in Whittier. Okay. Again, like eight years ago. And I said, I just want like a tandem beige color. And he came up with that and I just looks great.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (38m 29s):
This truck is absolutely flawless. I Mean. I’m walking around and I can’t see anything.
Sean P. Holman (38m 34s):
You have more flaws than this truck does. Well
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (38m 36s):
There’s not even a comparison in it. Oh,
Sean P. Holman (38m 38s):
I was talking about my partner here
8 (38m 40s):
When I first got it all gun You know done and running and everything. It it without, without the paint job. I told my wife, I’m just gonna leave it like that. Yeah. A nice driver. So I like the patina look. Yeah. Yeah. But after driving there for like four months, I said, You know what man, I see all these C tens. I go, I think I wanna do just a, just a clean paint job. Nothing really nice, but just decent. Yeah. Wow. It came out like this. Here
Sean P. Holman (38m 60s):
You go. Right.
8 (39m 0s):
Works beautiful.
Sean P. Holman (39m 1s):
Thank you. Whoever color sanded, they spent a lot of time getting all the flaws out. I Mean. It is. You don’t even see a ripple from Bondo or filler. It is completely smooth. And this has a lot of body lines. The way the bed kind of has the fin style, like it, it You know Chevys to that era.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (39m 16s):
It’s 20, 20 feet long of straight lines. Like you would see any
Sean P. Holman (39m 19s):
Imperfections. No, it does. But that’s the thing. It doesn’t have straight lines. Look at the bed, see how it sweeps up. There’s all these subtle lines in this generation of truck and normally you would see flaws all down the side of it. and you would see the ripples and you would see this truck is like a mirror. Thank I. Mean. It’s just incredible. Thank you. Whoever did your work like Wow.
8 (39m 37s):
Really? No. Bondo, whatever was destroyed. The guys cut the metal out. Yeah. And put new metal in. Awesome. So there might be a minimal amount of Bondo just to, just to get it blend in. Yeah. But I love the way I had ’em cut the You know the hooks and chains were gone in the back. Yeah. Right. Let’s
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (39m 50s):
Go around the back and look here. Come over here. I took, yeah,
8 (39m 51s):
I took, I wanted a smoother look. So I took those off.
Sean P. Holman (39m 54s):
And you don’t want that banging against your tailgate to drive anyway. Exactly. Especially on this pretty truck.
8 (39m 58s):
So I had those shaped, oh,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (39m 59s):
It’s all smoothie back here. Yep. For sure. So how do you open it? Where’s the handle on the inside?
8 (40m 2s):
Little hooks on the inside. if I need to open it, I really don’t open it. But it’s got little hooks inside.
Sean P. Holman (40m 8s):
Oh there they are. Got it.
8 (40m 10s):
And You know what these are?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (40m 11s):
No, those are some kind of, they’re the Home Depot
8 (40m 12s):
For doors. That closet doors. Yeah. Perfect. I just came up with those. I said I’ll use it. Awesome. The only bad thing is I see these little hooks now right here.
Sean P. Holman (40m 18s):
Oh yeah.
8 (40m 19s):
One time I was driving to work on the freeway at like five 30 in the morning and I saw this guy next to me waving me down. Oh. This point in the back of my truck. Like what? So I looked back and my tailgate’s gone. I didn’t see it. Well it actually opened up and it was laying on the bumper.
Sean P. Holman (40m 31s):
Oh,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (40m 32s):
Oh
8 (40m 32s):
Man. So it did some damage here. Yeah. But
Sean P. Holman (40m 36s):
Glad that guy out You know, pointed out
8 (40m 37s):
Right back to my shop. He fixed it up for me. And then the body shop that painted, oh, and I take that back. It was a horror story. No,
Sean P. Holman (40m 43s):
I had
8 (40m 43s):
To pull it out of the first body shop. Oh. Because he, he told me he would have it done in eight or 10 months. Yeah. He had it for a year and a half. Oh. And it, when every time I go by there’s
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (40m 52s):
Trash on You know. That’s right. Everyone has a story like that though, sadly. Yeah.
8 (40m 55s):
So I took it out. I had found another shop, which was way more expensive, but he says I’ll have it done in two months. I said, no way. Well he did it in four. Yeah, because what we’re talking about the body lines and the ripples or whatever. He did not want to paint over the existing other guy’s body work. Right. He wanted
Sean P. Holman (41m 10s):
To
8 (41m 10s):
Strip it down. He was So. I need to have my guy redo it, which he wanted more money. I says, Hey Doug, I don’t have any more money man. I had to borrow money from my dad just to get this thing done. Just do what you can. Yeah. And he tells me, because I like you, I’m gonna do it. Oh, I’m gonna give you a $10,000 job for 7,500. Oh
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (41m 29s):
Nice.
8 (41m 30s):
Okay.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (41m 30s):
He didn’t want you walking out of his shop with crap work. Like it’s, it’s that’s his,
Sean P. Holman (41m 34s):
It’s in his shop. His signature’s on it at that point, right? Yes.
8 (41m 36s):
And he is A-B-B-C-C unlimited outta Santa Fe Springs. Okay, awesome. So They did the work for me and yeah, when they, like you said, when I picked it up, I could not believe the, the body lines and the, there’s no ripples or nothing. Yeah. He said he blocked it twice. That’s all he needed to do. And then, and then through the paint.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (41m 54s):
So the pinstriping is just a darker shade of that same gray family. And if you just walk by
Sean P. Holman (42m 1s):
The truck quickly,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (42m 2s):
You’re like, you don’t see it. But then when you stop like we are and you look, you go, oh my god, it’s beautiful. And it’s, that’s how I wanted. It’s
8 (42m 7s):
Subtle. Yes. I wanted it like that. I didn’t want it to bam. Stand out real bright. So I told the guy, bless his soul, he passed away. His name is Danny D. Very popular pin striper out of Baldwin Park. He did it for me. and I says, just go with a darker shade and do what you can. He had to redo it and he forgot two pieces. If you look at each side of my window, you’ll see Pinstriping that’s lighter but you can’t even see it. I said, no, you gotta redo a darker color. So he redid the whole truck, but he forgot those two pieces. Well that’s
Sean P. Holman (42m 37s):
A great story.
8 (42m 38s):
It is. Right. you
Sean P. Holman (42m 39s):
Know and And only you’ll know that unless you tell share with people,
8 (42m 42s):
Which is great. Yeah. So. I may do a little bit more touch up somewhere down the road to have somebody else do it. ’cause again, this guy passed away from Covid. He had some difficulties and he was a
Sean P. Holman (42m 51s):
Good guy though. Well, nice for you to be able to have his art still and remember him and be able to share it with people.
8 (42m 56s):
Yes.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (42m 57s):
Does this truck have an Instagram or do you have one that we can share with folks who wanna see this?
8 (43m 1s):
I do. It’s two tough 64.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (43m 5s):
The
8 (43m 6s):
Number T-O-T-U-F-F 64.
Sean P. Holman (43m 7s):
Awesome. We appreciate your time. Thanks for sharing your truck with us and your passion. Thank
8 (43m 11s):
You. Thank you. I appreciate it.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (43m 13s):
I like the sticker on the back window by the way. Not today. Satan. Thank you.
8 (43m 17s):
Nope. Not today.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (43m 19s):
What is up with this Tahoe Unli? Me ta Dude.
Sean P. Holman (43m 22s):
Check out. Look at the wheels. Look the wheels leave the wheels.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (43m 25s):
Those are, they look
Sean P. Holman (43m 28s):
SCO 88. There’s no way 88 called. And they want their two spoke rad like Sy wheels back. I don’t even know. What do you call
9 (43m 37s):
’em? Well, I, Mean. These are the black hawks from Colorado Custom. But Boyd kinda had like the, the Deuce Ninja. Yeah. Or something like that. So
Sean P. Holman (43m 44s):
It
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (43m 44s):
Does look like a what? A not a a throwing star. Yeah.
Sean P. Holman (43m 47s):
Yes.
9 (43m 47s):
Yeah. Yeah. Very. So this, yeah, very mid nineties truck and Magazine ad. Oh, You know. A hundred percent You know, just like check through it. So did
Sean P. Holman (43m 54s):
This come from a mid nineties truck and Magazine ad?
9 (43m 57s):
So there’s some more story to that. So who are
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (43m 59s):
We with? What’s going on?
9 (44m 1s):
So I’m Jason Mulligan from Auto Revolution. So this actually is a 2000 Tahoe Limited. So they only made it that one year. Basically like throw a bunch of cool stuff at it, You know, put the police package Tahoe under. So it’s got
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (44m 13s):
The skirt kit on it?
9 (44m 14s):
Yeah, it’s got the side skirts, the bumpers You know different, everything was color matched. They actually did a concept vehicle of a Tahoe SS in 96 and then never made it and ended up using a lot of the styling cues on it for the Tahoe Limited when they came out with that. But my dad’s own bought this in probably 2003 and he had it for a while and then my brother had it and then it sat for probably the last seven, eight years. Barely getting drove. Where was
Sean P. Holman (44m 41s):
It?
9 (44m 41s):
Sitting in Pasadena under some trees. Really?
Sean P. Holman (44m 44s):
Yeah. Just not even a tarp or anything on it. Just No hanging
9 (44m 46s):
Out? No, just I. Mean. My, my brother by that time was he walked to work,
Sean P. Holman (44m 50s):
Walked everywhere
9 (44m 51s):
Else. Like
Sean P. Holman (44m 52s):
Was it painful to you to go to his house and just see it? I Mean. Like was the draw there every time you went
9 (44m 56s):
Like, well, and so the, the backstory a little bit on it is, you know, I got my 97 Chevy truck. It was on cover street trucks. I got that You know bags, all that stuff. I bought that in 2003 and actually we were test driving some of those and then my dad went out and bought this before I bought my truck. ’cause he is like, oh these ride nice. Lemme go get a Tahoe. The wheels that are on here are actually the original wheels that were on my red truck. Oh, okay. And then when I got new wheels, got it bagged, put ’em on this and they were hammered when I got this You know last year, basically it was like, okay, this is just gonna sit. So here my dad was like, basically here you do something with it. Your turn You know it’s yours. So we spent a lot of time working on it.
9 (45m 38s):
So we went to auto sauce. The paint was just hammered and his black paint, 20-year-old paint. So it went through and you know, detailed color, sanded the sides, buffed it all back out. And
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (45m 48s):
It’s black by the way people Yeah,
Sean P. Holman (45m 50s):
It black and the color sand on the side does not look like original paint.
9 (45m 53s):
No. And I Mean. That’s the beauty You know we didn’t color sand the hood ’cause it’s kind of a little bit too hammered. We
Sean P. Holman (45m 58s):
More pitted and so
9 (45m 59s):
We didn’t wanna risk it. So we might end up repainting the hood. The front end was smashed a little bit. So actually went put a G M C grill on it. And the billet insert that’s actually instead of polished or or brushed is air coated to match the wheels.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (46m 15s):
Ah, okay. Got it. And we explains the, the mat finish Exactly.
9 (46m 19s):
And so on the bumper, that’s the You know the limited bumper with the fog lights in it. But we shaved the, the front license plate and then fixed it up, repainted it, put new You know new lights and stuff on it. Fixed up some of the outside. They originally had some vinyl striping down the side from the factory. So we have him buddy Tom McWeeny custom zinc. He did pin striping that match it, but it’s like a gray and a gold. So it kind of ties in. Very
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (46m 44s):
Subtle. Yeah. Yeah.
9 (46m 45s):
And a little bit, just a little pinstripe, You know kind of motif on the back. Nothing crazy. This thing’s been running and driving really nice. But sitting
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (46m 52s):
On a, what kind of drop is this? So
9 (46m 54s):
We, with a belt tech suspension, it’s a four four drop. So basically with the Tahoes they’re a little bit lower than the truck would be. So it’s kind of the same as like a four six drop on a truck. So we did their coil over, or excuse me, their coils in the front. There’s drop spindles. We got a sway bar we went through, replaced all the brakes, all upgraded. So run. How
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (47m 15s):
Does it drive with the, with the drop on it? It’s
9 (47m 17s):
I Mean. It’s super nice. Like it, it, this thing just runs like a cloud I Mean You know we got a little bit bigger tires on it with some nito tires ’cause we only have seventeens on the Colorado Customs. But this thing’s just runs perfect. Drive super nice. It’s, it’s got 138,000 miles on it.
Sean P. Holman (47m 31s):
It’s perfect. It’s just, you look at it and you’re like, it’s a time capsule from the early two thousands, late nineties. And it’s rad. It’s just, it’s it’s the way it should have been and the way it should always be. Well
9 (47m 41s):
And that’s like this had like those all old Althea taillights and stuff on it. So from a
Sean P. Holman (47m 46s):
Certain company that we used to refer to as another piece of crap. Exactly, exactly.
9 (47m 50s):
Some
Sean P. Holman (47m 51s):
Other things. Intrusion.
9 (47m 51s):
Yeah. So yeah, just replace those with some nice smoked LED You know modern lights. So it’s wanted to keep some of those same styling points but modernize it. So obviously the SCO on the built wheels and on the inside it was all nice. It was all good. Only thing we ended up doing, aside from cleaning it up and fixing a couple things was I did a double in conversion in the dash. Yeah. So I don’t have the old tape deck and all that. Got a nice CarPlay and, and everything. Perfect. So
Sean P. Holman (48m 14s):
Perfect. Well dude, I love the ride. I, we rolled in here and we were, I just was like, I I started a Truckin Magazine back in the early two thousands. So there’s always gonna be a sweet spot for these
9 (48m 25s):
No. And types of things. Right? That’s, I I started stealing my dad’s Truckin magazines in the mid nineties and was going around and would circle these wheels and these drops and be like, All, right. Hey, yeah,
Sean P. Holman (48m 35s):
That, that, that, now
9 (48m 36s):
You got it. So then when I got my 97 kept going with that and then now it’s kind of a little bit full circle. So, nice.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (48m 42s):
Congrats. Yep. Thank you. Is it, is it on Instagram? Can anyone see it?
9 (48m 45s):
Yeah, so you can check it out. Auto Revolution. And then we also have on our Auto revolution YouTube channel, we have a full build video series on kind of the whole transformation of it. And it’s sponsored by Bell Tech. So
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (48m 57s):
At Auto Revolution? Yeah,
9 (48m 59s):
Just YouTube Auto Revolution. And go check it out. It’s called the OBS Clash Build Series. Nice.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (49m 4s):
Right on. Thank you. Thanks.
Sean P. Holman (49m 5s):
Appreciate your time. Jason,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (49m 6s):
What’s your name?
10 (49m 8s):
Dana Estes.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (49m 9s):
Dana This is a gorgeous truck.
Sean P. Holman (49m 11s):
So 67 to 72 step side 69. 69. Okay. And wow. It is absolutely stunning. Thank you.
10 (49m 18s):
What’s
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (49m 18s):
The story behind it? Where’d you find it? What’d you do to it? I assume you didn’t buy it this way?
10 (49m 22s):
No, So I actually bought it. Kind of the step side kind of thing with my dad or with my grandfather. Excuse me. He had a step side when I was younger. It was one thing that, you know, when he passed away we told grandma like, don’t sell it. Yeah. We want it. Yeah. His actually was a square body, you know, when it came time to finally start looking for one for myself, I I just, there’s certain things about the 67 to 70 twos that I like, they’re just over the square bodies. So in his honor I still stuck with the step side kind of thing. Yeah. ’cause I kind of have a love for him too. But yeah, I, I bought it, gutted it frame off everything. It’s got a full TCI chassis underneath it. Wow. So it’s a static ride on a coil over
Sean P. Holman (50m 2s):
It sits just right. Like it sits just right closer.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (50m 5s):
Look, let’s walk
10 (50m 6s):
Over it ride just like a, it drives just like a go-kart man. It’s dar it’s darty. It’s fun.
Sean P. Holman (50m 10s):
So you got a staggered fitment or is it twenties and 20 twos? Or is it It’s twenties all the
10 (50m 13s):
Way around. Twenties All the way around. Okay. We just, I
Sean P. Holman (50m 15s):
Oh well it’s, you got everybody. Oh yeah. Willwood. We’re good friends with all the guys over there. Mike Rik. Yep. Steve Cornelius. It’s
10 (50m 22s):
Got full, full will woods all the way around. Built it to drive. But I also, You know obviously built it up a little bit to be, to stand out.
Sean P. Holman (50m 29s):
So, and again, this is sort of like in that cement gray family, but when you walk up to it, it’s actually metallic. Correct. Which is really cool. ’cause you don’t see a lot of these You know kind of like the, the vinyl siding colors that have flake in them. Yeah. And so it, it, it pops up and you have no chrome on this except for your windshield wipers. Everything else is blacked out, which is super
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (50m 47s):
Red. Yeah.
10 (50m 47s):
I, I hate, I hate Chrome. And that’s actually one of my things I am gonna be doing soon is popping those off and nice and powder coating with black. ’cause that’s the only
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (50m 56s):
Do they drive you crazy? They do. It’s like the windshield wipers gotta get rid of them.
10 (50m 59s):
It’s, it’s, well You know and we’re in California, you know, ironically it’s like, why did I keep ’em? But coming back from the brothers show Yeah. A couple months ago I hit rain coming home. So I. Sure. You glad you had ’em? So. I was glad I had ’em at that point. But yeah, with the color we, we stuck with the cement gray. Yeah, that’s actually the Mopar Smoke show Gray. Okay. But the reason we put the pearl in is just for this reason, the way it sits right now. Yeah. you know the sun’s on one side of the car. Yeah. and you can see how it kind of looks flat You know it’s different on other side, but then, then once it the sun hits it, it
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (51m 28s):
Glows. So
Sean P. Holman (51m 30s):
What’s the drivetrain?
10 (51m 31s):
So it’s an LSS three with a six L 80. It’s the four 80 Dino just to tick over 500. Nice. It’s fully h hp tuned. It’s, but it, it’s tuned to be a happy driver.
Sean P. Holman (51m 42s):
And you got a full t m I
10 (51m 44s):
Full t m I. Yeah. It’s the, the full split bench. Yep. Door panels, carpet, dash pad visors. It’s
Sean P. Holman (51m 51s):
Gorgeous.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (51m 51s):
So you’re putting some miles on this. You’re not just showing it.
10 (51m 54s):
I’m showing it. But I Mean, I, I enjoy driving it. You know. I’ll throw the, I’ll throw the kids in the car. We’ll go get coffee, donuts, whatever. It gets a lot of looks. You know I got, I have people all the time asking me just to bring it by and park it in front of their, their place. ’cause they’re having an anniversary or something. You know celebration for, for, for their business. Like for instance, last weekend was a guy, a guy I know has his own gym and he was doing his three year anniversary. He’s like, dude, premier rear truck could park in front of my gym for the, for the celebration. I’m like, All. right. Cool. So I cleaned it up, brought it out. And it was funny because he asked a couple of his high roller buddies to come by and bring their Lambos and Porsches and Aston Martins and stuff.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (52m 33s):
Yours got more eyeballs. It did way more
10 (52m 35s):
Eyeballs. Mine was sitting right next to a Lamborghini and there was a Porsche GT three right next to it. And nobody cared. No one cared. Everyone walked right to it.
Sean P. Holman (52m 41s):
All right. Lenny, check this out. So we just talked about there’s no Chrome, right. So it’s got blacked out door handles. And by the way, that
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (52m 46s):
Key locks. So no, I’ve seen some crappy ass like vinyl wraps and all this stuff trying to black stuff out. Like just pss wheels. This is beautiful powder coating I assume here. So
10 (52m 56s):
These, these are Ring brothers though. The mirrors and, and the door handles are Ring Brothers, which is awesome. And it ring the Ring Brothers glove box door. Yep. And the, the instrument panel is Ring Brothers also. So it’s all anodized. Yep. The wheels. I had powder coated. ’cause when I bought these wheels in the whole country, they had a set of rears and blacks and they had a set of front and polished. Yeah. And that was all they had in the country. So I bought that front, those rear and I had sand bla and re powdercoated the color I wanted. And, and there that’s all she
Sean P. Holman (53m 28s):
Wrote. Right. So Lightning before you so rudely interrupted me. I wanted to show you something. Look in the bed,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (53m 32s):
The sub box. Oh, bed.
Sean P. Holman (53m 33s):
Look in the bed.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (53m 35s):
Oh, it’s blacked out wood.
Sean P. Holman (53m 38s):
Right. So m out the blacked out theme. You’ve got wood in the bed and it’s completely black. Yeah. Which just totally add to the theme of You know. If you look at the hood, did you see on the hood? It’s actually three-One on the hood. So I. See the stripes?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (53m 49s):
Oh. Oh my God. That that’s, and that
Sean P. Holman (53m 51s):
Carries through to the TMI seats too.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (53m 54s):
So there are two stripes. One is off, I can’t, I can’t describe it.
Sean P. Holman (53m 59s):
It’s like a cow style hood. And it has the darker’s, like, looks like one’s dry cement. One’s wet cement. And then there’s a black stripe that changes shape along the side. It is. So yeah.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (54m 9s):
Dialed
10 (54m 10s):
The way we did is the, the dark gray part of the cow is, has two drops of black in it. And it’s this color. Oh, okay. So it only has two drops of black to make it that color. Wow. And then this rolled into it, right? Yep. So this is the standard body color. And then we just put the black bit on it.
Sean P. Holman (54m 26s):
It’s just a little modern touch. Little modern flair. A little
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (54m 28s):
Sport. Yeah. A little,
Sean P. Holman (54m 29s):
Little pro. But without going crazy. Yeah. It’s just, it’s just a nod.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (54m 32s):
It’s, I like how the, the black stripe does not touch the darker gray stripe. It’s This is a space
Sean P. Holman (54m 36s):
Between the rest of mod style. Yeah.
10 (54m 38s):
It’s, it’s like the pro touring style striping. I love it. Without having like the ss stripes that You know would really date the build kind of
Sean P. Holman (54m 47s):
Thing. And anything on this LSS three that could be bought chrome in the aftermarket black,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (54m 52s):
The hood hinges. Everything is smooth. The firewalls smooth. This is just so
10 (54m 58s):
Clean. The accessories is is from Wagner’s, you know, full vintage air You know I got a lot of banana paneling on it. So the, the smoothing on the firewall is all banana fabrication. Where
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (55m 12s):
Are they out of?
10 (55m 12s):
Banana is in Missouri. Okay. He’s a good dude. I talked to him actually probably almost on a weekly basis. I’m actually billing another C 10 now with a lot of his panel work. So on the next one it’s gonna be completely boxed in Underhood with all of his panel work and stuff. Stuff on the inside. That’s, that’s his fabrication paneling work. So the next one is, is actually already underway. This thing is is my baby. It’s, it’s the first one I did. I had a lot of fun building it. So
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (55m 45s):
For your first foray into a build, dude, you knocked it outta the park. Stunning. No, seriously. Really? It
10 (55m 50s):
Was, it was, it was funny as I had all of the colors and everything already figured out before I even purchased the truck. Yeah. So I already had my whole build idea already done and ready on paper. The color.
Sean P. Holman (56m 2s):
That’s why I wasn’t my 67.
10 (56m 4s):
I knew the colors. Yeah. The color family. What engine trans I was going. Everything, everything was already already on paper and it was just start ordering parts. I bought the truck as, it was a roller shell. There wasn’t a a part bolted on it. It was a cab doors, fenders, front and back and that was it.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (56m 22s):
How was the rust? Any rust?
10 (56m 24s):
No, not at all. No panel replacements. Everything. It’s all original cab, original fenders, original bed. Everything’s all original as far as the paneling goes. I, I lucked out on, on the by.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (56m 35s):
Okay. Home in the final thing I wanna show you. Yep. Come inside. Look at the cab. Look what’s behind the seats.
Sean P. Holman (56m 40s):
Oh, I saw the
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (56m 41s):
Sub box. Yeah.
Sean P. Holman (56m 42s):
No, it’s, it’s really nice
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (56m 43s):
With a big old two jls in here and the battery behind the, the armrest. That is, that’s nice. Who did the sub
10 (56m 51s):
Box? Pacific stereo. They’re
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (56m 53s):
Pacific
10 (56m 54s):
Right here on Riverside. Gotcha. Right off of Tyler and Indiana. But They did the sub box panel and then They did the kick panels as well. So if you look at the kick panels down on the lower left. So there are speakers behind those.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (57m 5s):
Oh I didn’t even see the kick panels. Oh those are so clean. And those are the same tone. OnOne gray with the black grill.
10 (57m 11s):
Yep. So the interior, the fabric on it is actually, I bought a roll of the fabric from t m I to match the interior.
Sean P. Holman (57m 16s):
Look at the way the crease in the cow part of the hood You know the raised part looks in this light. It looks like there’s a pinstripe of the rust of the gray body, but it’s not right down the
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (57m 28s):
Center.
Sean P. Holman (57m 28s):
Yeah. It’s just the way it reflects light. That is so cool how it plays tricks like that. Awesome. Well thank you so much for sharing your truck with us. Yeah, absolutely.
10 (57m 35s):
Guys.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (57m 37s):
All. right? So what’s happening over here guys? Are you guys, This is a secret power. Are you deliberating? We know who
11 (57m 41s):
The winner.
Sean P. Holman (57m 42s):
You can’t be here right now. Sorry.
12 (57m 43s):
This is a secret behind the scenes I know the trucks get to Seema. This is what really happens. This is the, the nitty gritty of it all. Did you
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (57m 52s):
Guys were all wearing clothes? I thought someone told me you had to be naked to be part of this group.
12 (57m 57s):
That’s the after show. That’s the after you’re naked. We were wondering.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (58m 0s):
I felt a little weird. I gotta be honest.
Sean P. Holman (58m 3s):
This is audio only. You can’t see. The Lighting is currently bottomless right now.
12 (58m 8s):
He
Sean P. Holman (58m 8s):
Actually rode in in his skis on his zebra
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (58m 12s):
Smoking a cigar. It’s smoking
Sean P. Holman (58m 14s):
A cigar. No, that was me after having to share the zebra with you.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (58m 18s):
Wait, what? That sounds disgusting
12 (58m 22s):
In the back.
Sean P. Holman (58m 24s):
Who was nut to button? Who was nut to
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (58m 26s):
Hold? Stop, stop, stop. I’m hitting pause. This is gross.
12 (58m 31s):
Alright
11 (58m 31s):
Everybody, welcome to t m I. On behalf of t m I, we wanna thank all of you for coming out today showing us your beautiful vehicles. And my name is Sean Holman and I’ve got the judges here for the Trim Awards. And we are going to announce the fourth and final t m I Road show trim winner right now. So the, the judges took a look at all the vehicles that entered all the beautiful rides that you guys brought today. And we would like to congratulate Dana Estes on the 69 C 10 Woo. It’s got the full t m I interior. It’s absolutely stunning. It’s A TCI chassis LSS three V eight.
11 (59m 14s):
Beautiful Chrysler smoke show paint with pearl black and gray. We talk for the the podcast and the thing is absolutely stunning. 360 degrees. It draws you in from the outside. You stay to look at the inside and we couldn’t think of a a better winter today. So beautiful, beautiful truck. Congratulations.
13 (59m 36s):
Alright.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (59m 38s):
All. right? I feel like it’s news time.
14 (59m 41s):
What’s new in trucks? We need to know what’s new in trucks. We need to know what’s new in trucks. We need
5 (59m 49s):
To know lifted, lowered and everything in between. What’s happening in the world of trucks?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (59m 56s):
Ah,
Sean P. Holman (59m 58s):
That was better than last week.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (59m 59s):
Yeah, it was good. It was good.
Sean P. Holman (59m 60s):
It
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (59m 60s):
Wasn’t great. It wasn’t great but it was better.
Sean P. Holman (1h 0m 1s):
It was better. Yeah. I’ll give us better. Okay. Hey Lighting, did you hear?
15 (1h 0m 6s):
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 0m 8s):
No. Nope. I don’t think so. What you got for me?
Sean P. Holman (1h 0m 12s):
All, right? So. I. Find this interesting CEO of Ford. Jim Farley recently took a F-150 Lighting on Route 66 to road trip it and see what the ownership experience was like for EV trucks.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 0m 26s):
Okay. And he was actually, does he have a punchline?
Sean P. Holman (1h 0m 29s):
No, he was, he was quite honest about it. He wanted to take on a more rural route. Although I will say one of the things about the Route 66 revival is they’ve been putting in chargers along there to make it a EV route. So it’s not as rural as a lot of you may think about from your neck of the woods, but it’s still off the beaten path for anyone who’s ever done Route 66. While it does go through some major city centers and things like that, it is off times You know, off the beaten path. So. anyway, he had tweeted out a series of tweets. One of ’em was, Nope,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 1m 0s):
He
Sean P. Holman (1h 1m 1s):
Xed. Oh that’s true. He did X. He said, no surprise charging can be a challenge. But still learning a lot, seeing firsthand the issues our customers face. This is why we’re working with at Tesla to provide at four drivers access to 12,000 plus superchargers and our own EV certified dealers are installing fast chargers at their dealers. That was a pretty honest take. Yeah. For a guy who’s gotta move a lot of ev EVs to say this was a really good reality check of the challenges our customers go through, how
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 1m 28s):
Many EVs does he have to move?
Sean P. Holman (1h 1m 29s):
And the importance of fast charging. A lot. A lot, a lot. Hundreds. Hundreds of thousands. Yeah. So that
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 1m 35s):
Are sitting, waiting to be purchased.
Sean P. Holman (1h 1m 38s):
Well there is a glut apparently of certain EV models where the early adopters have finally caught up and gotten theirs. And sales have slowed down quite a bit. Anyway, Farley was talking specifically about some of the stations he visited, like a Coalinga, California Harris Ranch. And so there was a,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 1m 58s):
I just passed there last week. There you go. So
Sean P. Holman (1h 1m 60s):
Last Thursday he chose a lower speed charger because it was the first one available that he was able to plug the F1 52. The truck was 40 minutes at the station, only received 40% of charge.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 2m 9s):
You know what’s funny is when I go by there it cracks me up because there are a whole lot of Teslas. A lot and they’re just waiting to get to the pump or, well, there’s not a pump
Sean P. Holman (1h 2m 18s):
Of course. The charger, sorry. Well, the electron pump. Yeah, So. anyway, it, it was just a interesting, and
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 2m 23s):
It’s brutally hot out there, so as they’re sitting waiting to charge up, they’re killing the battery pretty quickly with their AC on, just not moving.
Sean P. Holman (1h 2m 30s):
So another tweet that he posted was on his drive to Vegas. He stopped in Baker, California, which we’re very familiar with. And there is a massive Tesla supercharger there and as well as, I think it’s Electrify America. Massive. Huge. And so he wrote like more than 50. He writes, it’s something, it’s more than 25 each. Okay. Yeah. On our drive to Las Vegas, we had a great experience at this popular and huge charging stop at Baker, California was so quick and easy, really highlighted the difference that a nice station and fast charging can make on the overall EV experience. So it was interesting if you, if you wanna follow Jim and see some of the tweets from his, his exploits, it’s at Jim Farley 98 and there’s some little nuggets of there again, he is the guy who is the CEO of Ford and he got out of the ivory tower, got down into one of his products and decided I’m gonna go road trip.
Sean P. Holman (1h 3m 18s):
I wanna see what my customers go through. Gotta give him some props for that. That that’s a good move. and I don’t know, You know Ford has a lot of stuff with social media influencers and stuff. And there was a thing where a guy saw a Lightning going by in a like Home Depot parking lot in the middle of Jim’s road trip and was like, Hey, is that a Lightning? He goes, yeah. He goes, oh, can you tell me about it? He goes, yeah. He goes, well what You know, how did you buy it? Who are You. He goes, well I’m actually the CEO of Ford. And the dude’s like, what? So Farley gave him a ride. So who knows if that staged or not. It looked legitimate. Right, right. I I’m not saying it was staged or, or anything, but that was kinda a funny thing in the middle of all this. Like somebody just randomly came up and was like, oh my god, I’m getting a ride in a F-150 Lighting with Jim Farley So.
Sean P. Holman (1h 3m 60s):
anyway, he’s known for being a real personable guy, obviously loves the brand. He’s been at Ford for a long time and I just thought it was worth noting that he went on this adventure. ’cause he wants to know what the pitfalls are.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 4m 11s):
So This is a little odd and embarrassing. I did not know that. Jim Farley, CEO of Ford is related to the late Chris Farley SNL star.
Sean P. Holman (1h 4m 20s):
I don’t think a lot of people know that. Funny tidbit, factoid to, to counter you. I’ll take your Jim Farley, Chris Farley reference and I’ll raise you a Tommy Boy reference. Okay. So Tommy Boy was released in 1995. So this year obviously 2023. It was the, oh, what is that 23rd anniversary or something like that?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 4m 42s):
I don’t whatever.
Sean P. Holman (1h 4m 42s):
27th. Sorry, math in my head. 27th anniversary of Tommy Boy. Did You know that that was based on Farley’s family?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 4m 50s):
No. Was
Sean P. Holman (1h 4m 50s):
It really? Yeah. Okay. That’s weird. So, so Jim Farley in an interview earlier this year in like January had noted that people ask him if Tommy boy was based on his family. And he says it was, he says during the summers Chris would travel on the road with his dad in Wisconsin. And every family has that kid that entertains anyone. Chris was ours. He says, God, we were lucky. So there you go. Little Jim Farley. Chris Farley trivia for you. There you go.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 5m 14s):
I I’m not too embarrassed now.
Sean P. Holman (1h 5m 15s):
Well I, it’s weird because I would’ve thought that You know he would’ve road tripped in a van and then parked it down by the river. But was
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 5m 22s):
What you did there.
Sean P. Holman (1h 5m 24s):
Thank you. I’ll be here all night.
16 (1h 5m 25s):
You’re gonna end up eating a steady diet of government cheese and living in a van down by the river.
Sean P. Holman (1h 5m 34s):
Hey Lighting, did you hear
17 (1h 5m 36s):
What you talking about
Sean P. Holman (1h 5m 37s):
Was, okay, I said this a while ago, and I said this on the show when the Hummer came out, when, when they announced the new electric Hummer. Do you remember what I said was going to happen to Hummer? It
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 5m 52s):
Would get canceled.
Sean P. Holman (1h 5m 54s):
No know,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 5m 57s):
Man. What did you say about it?
Sean P. Holman (1h 5m 59s):
I said that when Hummer got lambasted the last time and pushed outta production was because they were highly inefficient gas vehicles. Oh,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 6m 6s):
And you said the same thing would happen with this.
Sean P. Holman (1h 6m 7s):
So G, M, C comes out Reed vibes. The Hummer brand has a horribly inefficient, but because it’s ev they get a green pass and you go Whoa, we got a Hummer you can have guilt free, it’s a ev blah blah blah. I open up the drive today, You know what the headline is? Nope. The G M C hummer ev is so inefficient and makes other electric trucks look thrifty. There were other articles this week also mentioning the, the numbers, but it’s only gets 53 MPGE. Which, which isn’t, which isn’t great. You go to mud tray tires, that’s 50 MPGE, which is the equivalent just to go through some of the different things.
Sean P. Holman (1h 6m 47s):
Yeah.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 6m 48s):
How does it compare to like Rivian
Sean P. Holman (1h 6m 49s):
R one s is 68, the F-150 Lightning four Wheel drive with the extended range is 70. Hmm. So 53 not so, not so great.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 6m 57s):
Not so hot. No, but,
Sean P. Holman (1h 6m 58s):
But here’s what’s gonna happen is they’re gonna start getting pressure that it’s sucking up too much electrons and it’s, and you, it’s once again it excess. And Hummer owners are a holes and they’re taking all of our resources and all that stuff. And I’m telling you it’s coming. And this is the first hit are these couple stories that are already throwing, throwing the shells over the bow going Whoa, Hey, in efficiency world hovers back.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 7m 22s):
That’s insane. You can’t win Insane. It’s you can’t win It’s electric people. And you’re right, they, they will hate you should be driving, you should be riding a bicycle instead of that Hummer. Yeah,
Sean P. Holman (1h 7m 33s):
Whatever. Anyway,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 7m 34s):
I guess those are two crazy experiences. Hummer
Sean P. Holman (1h 7m 36s):
EV is 9,000 pound curb weight. 3000 of those pounced batteries come from the batteries. Yeah. So that’s, that’s nuts. I’m just listen I I said but
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 7m 46s):
Didn’t they say that, who was it that we spoke with? Someone said that they had to de-tune the Hummer.
Sean P. Holman (1h 7m 52s):
Yeah. ’cause it was doing Wheel stands.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 7m 53s):
It was doing wheelies. Yeah. Right. That’s awesome dude. Wheel stands like the, the TRX and GTA
Sean P. Holman (1h 7m 60s):
You mean the, the CGI video that people keep sending me even though we’ve talked about the podcast and said it’s not real.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 8m 6s):
You, you don’t own A TRX. I do. They keep sending to like Lightning, will your truck do this? I’m like,
Sean P. Holman (1h 8m 10s):
Dude, it’s so cool. Look at this. I’m like, it’s not real.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 8m 13s):
It’s not real. Don’t you see all, all the other vehicles in the, in the passing it that don’t have license plates? Yeah, it’s the whole and there’s like it’s a Mercedes but it has no star. It’s all Don’t you not get that that’s animated. No, they’re not looking close enough.
Sean P. Holman (1h 8m 24s):
They don’t know. They just fake
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 8m 24s):
Jumping off freeways and stuff. How
Sean P. Holman (1h 8m 26s):
Many people I had? They’re like, dude, it went over the overpass. What a police chase. That must’ve been, I’m like, yeah, on PlayStation. Anyway. Hey Lighting, did you hear?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 8m 35s):
No. Nope.
Sean P. Holman (1h 8m 36s):
The base model Ford Bronco is dead for 2024.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 8m 39s):
Oh.
Sean P. Holman (1h 8m 40s):
So now the cheapest model that you can get after Ford raises prices on all models is now the 41,000, $25 Big Bend model. So no more, no more base. So now the trim walk for Bronco starts at Big Bend for 41 0 25. Which is the only trim that’s unchanged from, from 23 Black Diamond, which is 44 5 25 Heritage Edition, which is 49 7 50. Outer Banks 49 8 35. And it just starts going up from there. Badlands 51 2 90 Everglades 57, 4 15 Wild Track 61 9 20 Heritage Limited edition 71 5 80 and the Bronco Raptor Raptor up from 88 4 75 2 91 7 30.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 9m 29s):
Holy Criminey. Wait a minute. So that’s 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 trim levels. Stop it. Ford. Well
Sean P. Holman (1h 9m 39s):
They dropped one of ’em.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 9m 40s):
There was 10. There were 10. Stop it.
Sean P. Holman (1h 9m 42s):
I’m just saying I. Mean
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 9m 43s):
What? I don’t even, that’s, that’s just confusion right there.
Sean P. Holman (1h 9m 47s):
I’m just telling you that’s, that’s where we’re at
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 9m 49s):
A land Wait a minute. Didn didn’t, it’s funny that they got nine trim levels and then you got Mary Barra over at GM saying, You know what, we’re gonna let a couple thousand employees go and we’re going to go to fewer skews, fewer part numbers in years forward going hold my beer.
Sean P. Holman (1h 10m 4s):
Well it’s just like the Super Duty and everything else they make, it’s, it’s, Ford has always been the, you know, you go go to a Japanese manufacturer, it’s like here’s the trim level, here’s what you get and there’s a couple packages you can add. Super simple. You go to Ford and there’s like 6 billion different build combinations of a super duty. And I’m like you’re, you’re talking about plant complexity and stuff like that. Even for the Wrangler for 2024 and presumably the gladiator, which hasn’t been announced yet, but it will They did away with a bunch of different functions here and there and simplified their lineup for build complexity. ’cause there’s so many versions of the Wrangler. I’m sure You know Ford has the same thing with Bronco. But
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 10m 40s):
So why are they sticking with it? Why is Ford committed to this complexity?
Sean P. Holman (1h 10m 43s):
Because they make money off of it. Oh, okay. It’s the juice is worth the squeeze apparently. Okay. Hey Lighting did you here,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 10m 51s):
How about new?
Sean P. Holman (1h 10m 52s):
Nope. So the 2024 Chevy Colorado is now dropping the mid-range engine option.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 10m 58s):
So So the mid-range was the point.
Sean P. Holman (1h 11m 2s):
They’re all two point sevens. Okay. All it was was the change that, it was the tune that changed. Oh, okay. And so basically apparently there’s no more mid tune anymore. It’s either going to be the base model or the top of line, which is a 3 10, 4 30.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 11m 18s):
That’s awesome by the way that they can charge more. That’s like an Apple phone, right? So you get two,
Sean P. Holman (1h 11m 22s):
You just Yeah. Change the software.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 11m 24s):
Yeah. Change. You can even change the hardware. It’s just the firmware inside. Yeah. and you activate a few new functions, you can charge more. It’s awesome. It’s
Sean P. Holman (1h 11m 29s):
Like Tesla saying, oh you bought the low range up. There’s an emergency in your area now you have the high range battery pack for free for two weeks. Right. Anyway, so what got eliminated was was they were calling the Turbo Plus, so that’s 310 horse and three 90. So 3 10, 4 30 is the top engine. And so they, the 2.7 liter base engine was 2 37. 2 59. So that stays in the lineup. Alright. There’s some other changes coming to the Colorado for 2024. So one of the other changes is the 11 inch driver’s information display is now standard. So the cheaper models had the eight inch screen before. So that’s nice. And then the WT work truck convenience package now gets a floor console.
Sean P. Holman (1h 12m 10s):
So that was something that wasn’t usually available on the work truck. Trim the floor
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 12m 14s):
Console, just like get the center console down. Yeah,
Sean P. Holman (1h 12m 16s):
Yeah. And below there’s also a dark essentials package, which has a black bow tie emblem available on all sorts of grades. That’s weird.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 12m 23s):
I was in the mall last night and I bought a dark essentials package. I know, my wife and I were enjoying that till late at night. You
Sean P. Holman (1h 12m 29s):
Didn’t know what that means, nor do I care. And then now that the zero two bison is out there is no more Desert Runner. We talked about that being a one year only model previously on the show. So those of you who are looking into the 2024 Chevy Colorado Oh I’m driving the ZR two version of that in September. Really? So we’ll have truck review on it. It’ll be my first time in the new Chevy platform. Okay.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 12m 52s):
I’m looking forward to that.
Sean P. Holman (1h 12m 54s):
Definitely excited to bring that to The. Truck Show Podcast system. Where
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 12m 57s):
Are you? Are you I can’t borrowing it or you know, going somewhere.
Sean P. Holman (1h 12m 60s):
I’m going on a press drive. Oh you are? I just got invited today so. Gotcha. I’m signing up for that. Making sure that we can bring all of the relevant news and impressions to our listeners. Good
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 13m 10s):
For us.
Sean P. Holman (1h 13m 11s):
Hey Lighting, did you hear?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 13m 12s):
No. Nope.
Sean P. Holman (1h 13m 14s):
The Iios Grenadier And which
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 13m 18s):
Is the name that you keep saying and I think it’s bogus every time. Yeah,
Sean P. Holman (1h 13m 21s):
It’s not. Anyway they have,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 13m 24s):
Because it doesn’t sound like in your face. Like whatever, when in your ins Grenadier you, you can’t not hear in your face.
Sean P. Holman (1h 13m 31s):
I’ve never heard that.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 13m 32s):
You’ve never heard in your face?
Sean P. Holman (1h 13m 33s):
Nope. What? Because it’s Ineos
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 13m 36s):
I know that. Not,
Sean P. Holman (1h 13m 37s):
Not Ineos. It’s Ineos.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 13m 38s):
It’s the same thing in your face. No.
Sean P. Holman (1h 13m 41s):
In
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 13m 41s):
Your,
Sean P. Holman (1h 13m 46s):
Anyway. For people who love the defender in action in Africa, the Grenadier safari comes complete with stadium seating, a canvas roof and a folding windshield. So hopefully you’ll see more of those. If you go on your African safari, you’ll be driving around. I think they’re pretty awesome with
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 14m 5s):
No, that is cool. Now with stadium seating, does it come with bubblegum on the backs?
Sean P. Holman (1h 14m 9s):
They’re not seats out of an actual stadium. Oh, hey Lighting, did you hear?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 14m 15s):
No. Nope.
Sean P. Holman (1h 14m 16s):
Toyota released a international version of the Ranga Ranga Ranga, what are you trying to say? R-A-N-G-G-A concept. And it previews this. It’s ran
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 14m 27s):
Ja
Sean P. Holman (1h 14m 28s):
It’s
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 14m 28s):
Not Say it with me
Sean P. Holman (1h 14m 30s):
Haw. No, there’s no J there. No, I think it’s a, unless it’s a range jaw, I could, who knows. Anyway, rickshaw. It’s close to rickshaw. Okay. What it is is a mini truck for international markets. And it is one of the ugliest, somewhat cutest things you’ve probably ever seen. Lemme see. Lemme see. Lemme see. No, I’m, I’m gonna describe it first ’cause I want you to put it in your head. Okay. ’cause you’re not gonna be able to understand it. All.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 14m 51s):
Right. I’m gonna close my eyes. Here I go.
Sean P. Holman (1h 14m 53s):
All. right. So the front looks kind of like an FJ cruiser in a way. It’s kind of like got champed edges and stuff like
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 14m 58s):
That. I like that. That’s a good start. And
Sean P. Holman (1h 14m 60s):
Then the door looks like it could be an armored door, just the way the structure is and the way it looks. But then it has like a super rudimentary like style dump bed on the back and steel wheels. Hmm. So Toyota has gone to great lengths of putting a bunch of these in. CGI I’m gonna throw it up on the, the pod shed TV in here. So you can see behold Oranga. The Ringa.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 15m 26s):
That is a Lego. That’s a Lego truck. Looks like Legos. That’s a Lego truck. and I love it. What is
Sean P. Holman (1h 15m 32s):
It with with with Toyota making Lego trucks
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 15m 34s):
These days. No dude. I’m telling you. I love that Hold
Sean P. Holman (1h 15m 36s):
On this is what I need to show you though. Okay. We’re gonna go through the trim walk. This is white. It’s a white truck
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 15m 41s):
Truck. So. I. Love this one with the Steelies. Yeah. Okay. Okay.
Sean P. Holman (1h 15m 45s):
There’s the dump bed on the back.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 15m 46s):
I love it. I love it all.
Sean P. Holman (1h 15m 47s):
And it barely looks like it would fit two people inside. Yeah.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 15m 50s):
It’s tiny
Sean P. Holman (1h 15m 51s):
Ed. Do you like how the CGI has no lug nuts on the back. That’s pretty funny. Or breaks or
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 15m 54s):
Anything? Wait, there’s not even anything holding the Wheel? No, it’s just, it’s just floating in space that didn’t even bother.
Sean P. Holman (1h 15m 58s):
Kinda funny. Here’s one as an ice cream truck.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 1s):
Oh. man. That’s not that one. Not, not that’s not okay. Oh,
Sean P. Holman (1h 16m 5s):
I thought you were gonna get excited about that.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 7s):
No, I don’t like that one version. All,
Sean P. Holman (1h 16m 8s):
Right? All right. How about one as a camper van?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 11s):
No. Which
Sean P. Holman (1h 16m 12s):
Looks like part H three electric truck.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 14s):
Yeah. That’s weird. It’s gonna weird, right? The lines are so odd. by the way, someone drew this in Microsoft paint, like it’s not,
Sean P. Holman (1h 16m 21s):
It does look super, super old. I was gonna, I’m not sure.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 24s):
Oh, lemme see the mini truck Hold on. I’m, I’m
Sean P. Holman (1h 16m 26s):
Getting there. I’m getting there. I’m getting there. I that Hold on I know All. right? Okay. All. right Here. we go the coffee shop truck.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 32s):
Okay. I don’t, I don’t mind that one. This, I don’t know who did the Browns, but I like the, the not the shell. What’d you call that? The box van part on the back. That’s cool looking.
Sean P. Holman (1h 16m 40s):
Listen, if you guys are interested in seeing these folks go to auto blog.com. But I, I’ve, I like lightning’s reactions here.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 46s):
Okay. So that, that’s like
Sean P. Holman (1h 16m 47s):
A grandpa.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 48s):
I love this one. I love it. ’cause it’s a wooden not dumping wooden bed.
Sean P. Holman (1h 16m 52s):
There’s some chrome in it. It’s got old Land Cruiser FJ 60, like moon hub caps on it. Oh look
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 57s):
What they put in the front.
Sean P. Holman (1h 16m 57s):
Yeah.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 16m 58s):
Factor 55. Yeah.
Sean P. Holman (1h 16m 60s):
Yeah. Ultra Link. Yep. Or or or or actually that’s an ultra hook. And then we got the, the firefighter one. Oh,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 17m 6s):
That’s cool. Dude, that’s, I don’t think that’s cool. That’s a Lego fire truck. I know, it’s, it’s, that’s not even real that, oh there’s the main
Sean P. Holman (1h 17m 12s):
Truck. Oh
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 17m 13s):
Snap.
Sean P. Holman (1h 17m 14s):
And it looks like it has what? Sparkle wheels on it or something. Why did they do the And then it’s got the Japanese Rising sun. Rising sun.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 17m 19s):
The rising sun. Rising sun. Yeah, sun. It’s kind of cool.
Sean P. Holman (1h 17m 20s):
It’s a red truck with a white rising sun on it. Yeah. And it has a roll cage in the back. That’s kind of cool.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 17m 25s):
By the way, look at the wheels. They’re all negative cam. Of
Sean P. Holman (1h 17m 28s):
Course I don’t hate this one. I know who, I don’t know who did this, but it’s on Autobox. Like
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 17m 32s):
My child did this, a kid did this. It’s like fourth grader.
Sean P. Holman (1h 17m 35s):
I don’t think so. There’s some cool ones in there. Nah, there’s some cool ones
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 17m 38s):
There. Dude, I gotta be honest. I love the first one the most. The white one. Go back to the
Sean P. Holman (1h 17m 41s):
Original one. The just
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 17m 42s):
The standard mini truck. The mini truck is cool.
Sean P. Holman (1h 17m 44s):
Mini’s badass.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 17m 45s):
Yeah, it does look aggressive. It’s just got the
Sean P. Holman (1h 17m 47s):
It’s what this is The This is
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 17m 49s):
A bar in the back. Like the not
Sean P. Holman (1h 17m 51s):
Sport bar or whatever Sport bar. Yeah. But here’s the thing, it’s cool because it’s a cheap thing and you do whatever you want with you. ’cause you don’t care. It’s, it’s always fun to drive something slow, fast and drive something fast. Slow. Yes. And this is that this is that thing. You’re gonna take something that, who knows what it’s gonna cost, but You know it’s not coming to America. It’s, it’s going to be some new model. This is a concept and they’re just playing with you. There’s, it’s not, it’s it’s not real yet, but it’s still fun to
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 18m 17s):
I want this to be real, dude. It’s still fun to pretend I want that dump bed version. The white one to be real
Sean P. Holman (1h 18m 21s):
I know you do That
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 18m 22s):
Is so cool, huh? Ah, that, that I’m, that’s neat. Thanks for doing that. Whoever did that.
Sean P. Holman (1h 18m 28s):
Yeah.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 18m 30s):
So we need to get to an email. Donald Wilson sent one to truck Show Podcast at gmail.com and he said, I contacted y’all to inquire about a bank’s product for my 2023 Pro four X Frontier. I included a picture of it in front of my work truck. A 2022 Pete 3 89. No sound effect. No. No grunt, no. No Drool over a Pete 3 89.
Sean P. Holman (1h 18m 52s):
I was waiting for you to finish the email. Oh,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 18m 54s):
Okay. I’ve been very
Sean P. Holman (1h 18m 56s):
Yeah, Pete Long as Whoa Pete. Thank you. How’s that? Too late. A little bit
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 19m 1s):
Too late or too late? Yes. Yeah, I’ve been a truck guy my whole life. Drove Humvees deuces and five tons in the army. I’ve been a commercial driver for 15 years and have well in excess of 1 million miles. I have an 86 F two 50. That was my daily until I got the Frontier. I also have two project vehicles, a 98 Dakota and a 54 F 100. My wife drives a 1200 and she loves it and would never part with it. My summer daily is a 21 Road Glide Limited. Does this guy have the ultimate garage? What?
Sean P. Holman (1h 19m 32s):
Sounds pretty good, dude.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 19m 33s):
So I. Think we need to call listener Donald Wilson.
Sean P. Holman (1h 19m 37s):
But wait a minute. You’re not even setting up why we’re calling him be
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 19m 40s):
Oh. Oh. Because this is our new segment where we talk to you, the truck owner. Yeah.
Sean P. Holman (1h 19m 44s):
So we’re gonna do You Review your own truck because we are curious, we have so many people send us emails about, Hey, I’m looking at x, y, z truck or a BC truck and what do you guys think? Well, we could spend a little bit of time here and there with them. We certainly have our opinions about it, but we wanna do a segment where we get real truck owners to review their truck, what they like about it, what they don’t like about it. If, if you’re a Ford guy, it’s okay to say you don’t like the turbo lag on your Super Duty or something like that. Or, or You know your GM warranty didn’t cover something at X Mile. Whatever. We wanna hear the, the nitty gritty and the down and dirty. So this is our new segment called,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 20m 20s):
Can I say it?
Sean P. Holman (1h 20m 21s):
Well, have we settled on it because we we’re emailing back and forth. No, I
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 20m 24s):
Think I’ve got it. All, right? It’s called You Review.
18 (1h 20m 29s):
Tell us all about your truck. Is it great or does it, does it suck before I buy? I need a clue. Don’t pull punches. You Review.
4 (1h 20m 50s):
You Review.
19 (1h 20m 56s):
Hello.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 20m 57s):
Hello. Is this Donald Wilson Lightning and Home at Truck Show. Podcast.
19 (1h 21m 1s):
How’s it, how you guys doing? We’re
Sean P. Holman (1h 21m 2s):
Doing great.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 21m 2s):
We’re doing outstanding. Good. You are the first person in our new segment and it’s, we’ve, we’ve talked about this segment for quite some time where we were going to find listeners that had cool truck collections, but you put us over the top, we saw your email and we’re like, oh my God, we’ve gotta talk to Donald. Like, this is ridiculous. You have every man’s dream garage.
19 (1h 21m 25s):
Oh, I don’t know about that.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 21m 27s):
I think it’s I Mean. Look, you got supercar guys where they have tis Ferrari’s You know Lambos. Yeah, yeah. But then you have the ol, the Holy Grail of like truck ness and I think that with the peat as the cornerstone that it’s, it’s pretty damn strong. The
Sean P. Holman (1h 21m 41s):
Pete is basically the Harley-Davidson of semis, but then he basically has the Harley Davidon, also
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 21m 47s):
The HARs Davidson of the Harley Davidsons. Yeah,
19 (1h 21m 51s):
Yeah, yeah. I’ve I’ve said that about the Pete’s lot. The 3 89 is, is
Sean P. Holman (1h 21m 55s):
They’re special.
19 (1h 21m 56s):
It’s not the best truck out there, but it’s the it’s the one we all want to drive.
Sean P. Holman (1h 22m 0s):
Exactly. There’s there’s a lot of vehicles out there that aren’t the best. They’re just, they, they’re special. They either make you feel good when you drive them or they just as a whole, you just have a smile on your face when you’re behind the Wheel and that’s what matters.
19 (1h 22m 16s):
Oh yeah, yeah. When people think of a truck, that’s what they think of as a Pete 3 89.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 22m 20s):
Now tell me the Jake break makes all the noise that we love.
19 (1h 22m 26s):
Well, they’re not as loud now as they used to be back in the day. They’ve quietened them down. Every town you roll into has got a sign that says No Jakes. And Really?
Sean P. Holman (1h 22m 35s):
Oh yeah. Now they’re all over the, but I was on off the 10 yesterday and there was a downhill section at in adjacent to the gas station and here comes a Pete rolling down the interstate and it was full blast onto the Jake break. It was like, yeah,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 22m 48s):
Dude. All those towns, you know, Jake break.
19 (1h 22m 53s):
Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Well, You know, it’s been scientifically proven that a Jake break is quieter than a truck crashing through your living room.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 23m 2s):
Thank you. Good eye.
Sean P. Holman (1h 23m 3s):
Very good, very good tip your waitress. There you
19 (1h 23m 5s):
Go.
Sean P. Holman (1h 23m 6s):
So, so what, what engine powers the Peet,
19 (1h 23m 9s):
You know, Kat quit making onroad on highway engines? Yeah. A while back. It’s got a, it’s got a Cummins 15 liter.
Sean P. Holman (1h 23m 18s):
Okay. All. right. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.
19 (1h 23m 20s):
I’m No, no, no. That’s good. Engine.
Sean P. Holman (1h 23m 23s):
You know the G is silent in that. Right?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 23m 26s):
It’s not
19 (1h 23m 26s):
Cummings. Did I say, did I say Cummings? No.
Sean P. Holman (1h 23m 29s):
I didn
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 23m 29s):
I know
Sean P. Holman (1h 23m 30s):
Cums. You, you said it the right
19 (1h 23m 31s):
Way. Yeah. I know I know I know the G is silent. We, we,
Sean P. Holman (1h 23m 35s):
We just laugh because we, we, and we’re gonna make t-shirts soon that have the hashtag, the G is silent. We just, it will never cease to not humor us that when you read it, it says the jizz
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 23m 45s):
Jizz, you’re gonna be in a bar. Yeah. And someone’s gonna go, what is the glin? and you’re like, you’re like, well it’s not what you think it is.
Sean P. Holman (1h 23m 50s):
No. He’s gonna say, let’s walk outside to my truck.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 23m 55s):
You hear a lot of people,
19 (1h 23m 56s):
You hear a lot of people saying it.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 23m 59s):
And what kind of transmission is that engine in front of
19 (1h 24m 2s):
An 18 speed eaten fuller.
Sean P. Holman (1h 24m 4s):
Okay. Wow.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 24m 5s):
And
19 (1h 24m 5s):
That, yeah. Yeah. I like the stick a
Sean P. Holman (1h 24m 7s):
Lot better. Not, not one of these, was it the cascades that have the, the automatic transmission? So anybody can drive a truck now and then now whenever you drive on the interstate, you can tell all the people who probably shouldn’t be driving a semi and they’re all automatics.
19 (1h 24m 25s):
Yeah. There’s a lot of ’em. I’ve, I’ve, I’ve had one of those in the past and they’re sure nice when you get in the big city like Atlanta or Sure. Dallas or Houston or somewhere they should. But, but I don’t, I don’t go places like that. So I’m pretty happy to have the 18 speed gives you a a lot more options.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 24m 43s):
Now are you skipping gears? I gotta assume you’re making a lot of skips.
19 (1h 24m 47s):
Yeah. When you’re, when you’re empty, you’re running it like a nine speed. Okay. Yeah. You’re starting out in like fourth gear and then, and then just every other gear. So it’s, you just shift, it shifts like a five speed then, so you go through the gears and you split every gear and then it’s got a selector and you, you pull it up and you go through the upper nine gears.
Sean P. Holman (1h 25m 8s):
So what I wanna know is all you big rig truck drivers out there are, are clearly better drivers than just about, oh, I don’t know, 99% of people on the road. You have to be, but what’s amazing to me is I have been driving across, I, I drive across the country all the time and I’ve been like on Interstate 70 in Colorado in a full whiteout blizzard in an all-wheel drive Grand Cherokee. Can’t see the lines for the life of me trying to stay on the highway. There’s no place to pull over and I,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 25m 36s):
Can I
Sean P. Holman (1h 25m 36s):
Get your question? And I’m doing 35 miles an hour and here comes an 80,000 pound big rig going by me at 55 0 Fs given. And I’m like, how? No,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 25m 46s):
Because I thought your question was, what is your superpower?
Sean P. Holman (1h 25m 49s):
No, I exactly it. Well, to weight I Mean it’s 80,000 pounced. So it takes a lot to slide off the
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 25m 54s):
Road. But yeah, look at your body. You’ve got
Sean P. Holman (1h 25m 55s):
A lot of weight. Yeah. I don’t have 80,000 pounced. I’m, I was amazed. I was trying not to get run You know, run into from behind. That was my biggest fear is I couldn’t go faster because I couldn’t see, and I couldn’t go slower because all the big rigs were like 20 miles an hour faster than me.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 26m 9s):
So it’s wild. I was on the Alcan Highway up going through the Yukon. This is many, many years ago. The same thing happened where I’m cruising along in my Ford Ranger I think is what we had. And trucks are just coming up barreling around us and we couldn’t see where we were going. We had to pull off into an embankment and the truck just
Sean P. Holman (1h 26m 26s):
So, so explain that to us.
19 (1h 26m 28s):
I’m like you, I’m pulling off the embankment. I don’t know those guys. I think, I think they’re the ones that end up in the ditch. A lot of that comes from dispatchers for and forcing guys to run, try to make their load times and stuff. you know,
Sean P. Holman (1h 26m 41s):
It’s, it’s insane out there. I was, I was driving back from Utah and there was 75 mile an hour crosswinds and I saw big rigs in front of me going up on two wheels on the trailers in the back. I’m like, yeah, I don’t wanna be anywhere near you right now, sir.
19 (1h 26m 53s):
Yeah. That’s scary. That’s scary. Getting up on two wheels ’cause of the wind. I used to run up in Wyoming a lot and the wind’s always blowing up there and you, you gotta be really careful on one. Have you been
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 27m 3s):
Up? Especially if you’re on one side.
19 (1h 27m 6s):
I’ve never tipped it over. I’ve, I’ve been blown pretty hard though, where you look in the mirror and the trailer’s hanging way out to the side. Oh man, I haven’t pulled, I don’t, I haven’t pulled too many drive vans. I’ve always pulled mostly tankers and so you are
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 27m 19s):
Don’t explosive if you turn over.
19 (1h 27m 22s):
Yeah, exactly. Exactly. You they spilled a load of gasoline up on Wolf Creek pass this winter sometime. Oh. And had it shut down for a while. Yeah. It’s, it’s, it’s not a good thing. No, you gotta be extra careful with that stuff.
Sean P. Holman (1h 27m 35s):
What year is the peak?
19 (1h 27m 37s):
It’s a 22.
Sean P. Holman (1h 27m 38s):
Oh wow. The, I So yeah, if you look, here’s what I love about the, even the new ones is they look just like the old ones. I, I think they even have probably the same doors and everything, but the, the interiors is pretty modern. It kind of looks like a, like I know, a cargo van interior or something like that. It’s, it’s pretty amazing. Like the creature comforts that are on the new trucks.
19 (1h 27m 57s):
Oh yeah. They’re, they’re pretty nice. But you know, I spend, I spend 12 hours a day in that truck, 11 hours driving. So it’s, it’s gotta be comfortable to keep your attention on the road, you know, and not, you know, you don’t want it so comfortable. You’re fall, you’re falling asleep and stuff. But it’s gotta be,
Sean P. Holman (1h 28m 13s):
I just like how it still has a two piece windshield.
19 (1h 28m 14s):
It’s gotta be pretty good. Yeah. Yeah. That’s You know, that’s, they’re not the most aerodynamic out there, but they’re, it’s still cool. They, they definitely, they definitely still got that look I mean. you can tell You know guys that know ’em can tell by looking at the headlights. What, what your model
Sean P. Holman (1h 28m 28s):
Oh yeah, you’re in. Yeah, the new, the new grill’s definitely give it away.
19 (1h 28m 31s):
Yeah. The neuro one’s got the LED headlights and stuff.
Sean P. Holman (1h 28m 34s):
Now I have a, I have a question. Are you guys, so most of the world and You know off-roading and stuff like that, people are moving to GMRS radios because there’s a whole lot more range. Are you guys still on CB radios in the big trucks or are you guys switching to GMRS? Are you happy? All of the normal people are going over to GMRS. So you guys have CBS yourselves now?
19 (1h 28m 56s):
Well You know the CBS aren’t used like they were back in the day. A lot of guys don’t even have ’em turned on anymore. But yeah, we’re still using CBS and like we use ’em more. I go to a mine load every day and we use ’em more talking to loader operators and stuff like that. They don’t talk on the radio as much like they used to. It’s hard to get a smoky report like They did back in the seventies.
Sean P. Holman (1h 29m 19s):
Now do you, do you still use things like coming up your back door mofo or anything like that? Well
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 29m 27s):
The fact that he still calls ’em Smokies is pretty
Sean P. Holman (1h 29m 29s):
Rad.
19 (1h 29m 32s):
Not, not so much, you know, back. Yeah. We just don’t talk to each other much at all. And a lot of guys won’t have ’em on and
Sean P. Holman (1h 29m 39s):
That’s sad. I felt like there’s a community
19 (1h 29m 40s):
Out there. It would, well yeah, it would be better if it was, but You know it, like asking about the traffic ahead or talking to each other, going different directions and the weather and You know when does this snow squa blow out or is the port open? Stuff like that. Or traffic stopped ahead of you.
Sean P. Holman (1h 29m 59s):
Oh yeah, that too. I remember in Boy Scouts we’d go out on like a trip and everybody would be loaded into one of the vans and I had like my Radio shack realistic handheld CB with like the metal telescoping antenna that was about 36 inches long. And the whole trip out to wherever we were going, the whole car of scouts is You know trying to get truckers to talk to us. It was hilarious. And you would listen to the chatter and that’s sad to know that that’s not, that’s not the same today.
19 (1h 30m 22s):
You know once in a while I’ll pass somebody and they’ll say something. We’ll talk for a minute and then, but the range You know, especially where I’m running, you know, with the hills and mountains and stuff, you don’t have too much range. Yeah. We’ll give you each other a heads up on what’s going on when we’re going different directions You know
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 30m 37s):
Donald, let’s talk through some of the other trucks here. So you’ve got a 23 Pro four X Frontier. Let’s, what color is that Coleman?
Sean P. Holman (1h 30m 45s):
It’s kinda a mine’s Cardinal Red. Cardinal
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 30m 47s):
Red. Okay.
19 (1h 30m 48s):
I think mine’s the same thing. It’s the,
Sean P. Holman (1h 30m 50s):
It’s a
19 (1h 30m 51s):
Gray color is the Yeah, it was the cardinal red. The plain red. And then they’ve got like a ruby red too or something. Oh yeah. I don’t think you can get it on the Pro four X though. This
Sean P. Holman (1h 30m 58s):
One’s the Ruby Red Pro four x. Alright,
19 (1h 30m 60s):
That’s cool. That’s cool. Yeah, we I Mean. I’ve been listening to y’all and they sure sound like a good truck. And we just decided, oh, it’s been a month or so ago, we’d stop by and drive Juan and So I. But I’m pretty happy with this Nissan, the interior’s really nice. It’s got the upgraded interior with leather and the full Fender audio or is it Fender? Yeah, fender audio systems. And like, I would never order one with the sunroof, but it’s got the sunroof and everything on it. Oh,
Sean P. Holman (1h 31m 26s):
So you must have gotten the, the Lux package.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 31m 28s):
Let me ask, let me ask you this. Do we sound better over the Fender audio system than we sound right now? Or do we sound worse?
19 (1h 31m 34s):
Well, I listened to you at work through the truck stereo,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 31m 38s):
So
19 (1h 31m 39s):
I haven’t listened to you in the Nissan, but, okay, got it. Yeah, well
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 31m 43s):
Hopefully the Nissan makes us funnier.
Sean P. Holman (1h 31m 44s):
I doubt it. There’s, that technology doesn’t exist for, at any price point in any modern truck. Well,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 31m 50s):
Donald, what surprised you in a, in a good way, most about the frontier when you got it, you bought it, you got it home, and you go, wow, this one thing is cooler than I expected.
19 (1h 31m 59s):
Well, I really, the, it’s got the, the lighted up pro fourex on the, on the sill plate when you open the door. That’s really cool. I don’t know, just everything about it. It’s, it’s nice. It’s, we’ve been driving full-size trucks, so it’s You know, it’s nice. It’s a lot easier to park. These trucks have gotten so big. I had an 18 Super Duty and I had a, oh, I had a rebel and I had a,
Sean P. Holman (1h 32m 21s):
A Rebel’s a great truck too. That’s the, that’s
19 (1h 32m 23s):
Oh yeah. I
Sean P. Holman (1h 32m 24s):
I really
19 (1h 32m 24s):
Like the one we had. I wish I’d have kept, I should have kept that one. Yeah, it was, it was, it had the Hemi and Yeah, it was, it was, it was a lot of fun to drive. And then I had a Cummins and a G silent and a 2,500 and that, and that was a pretty nice truck too. But You know, the thing is I got rid of the Super Duty because I was only driving three miles each way to work. And that’s just not
Sean P. Holman (1h 32m 46s):
Oh, that’s bad for diesels. ’cause you’re gonna, it’s
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 32m 48s):
Probably always gonna re BF
Sean P. Holman (1h 32m 49s):
Yeah,
19 (1h 32m 50s):
Yeah. When I bought it, You know, we were living in a, in a 40 foot fifth Wheel. And so it was to pull that and we pulled it once and sold it and I hated to get rid of the trucks. It was the Lariat with the LT ultimate package and had the leather and all that stuff in it. Nice. And it was a super nice truck.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 33m 8s):
I gotta, I gotta know what you think of the zero gravity seats.
19 (1h 33m 11s):
I love them. I love ’em. I gotta, I gotta take everything outta my pockets when I get in and then they’re, they’re great. Yeah,
Sean P. Holman (1h 33m 17s):
Just let your butt nestle into the comfort of the Oh, and I’ll tell you, this is no joke. The Frontier and the Titan, when you sit in the seats on either one of those trucks, you immediately feel how comfortable they are and I go back and forth between them and I’ll get into, in a, the Frontier or the the Titan, I’ll be like, oh yeah. Oh yeah. These seats, they’re just something they immediately are, are
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 33m 36s):
Incredibly Well you’ve just taken a couple road trips in this one out here. Yep. Let’s move on to the 98. No, let’s, yeah, the 98 Dakota and then the 54 F 100. What’s going on with those?
19 (1h 33m 50s):
Well, so the 54 F 100 was just kind, it was on Facebook marketplace for a while. The guy had like four or five of ’em and he had ’em stored where he was working and needed to get rid of ’em and I got it. Dirt, dirt cheap. But it doesn’t have a title on it, but it
Sean P. Holman (1h 34m 5s):
We know a guy
19 (1h 34m 6s):
It came out.
Sean P. Holman (1h 34m 7s):
Yeah. You know guy.
19 (1h 34m 8s):
Yeah. Well I I know how to get a bonded title. I just haven’t started it yet. Sure. So I haven’t done anything with it because I’m not gonna put any money in it until I get a title, so. Yeah,
Sean P. Holman (1h 34m 16s):
Absolutely.
19 (1h 34m 17s):
So, and here in New Mexico they, they issue you a builder’s title and then you gotta take it and get it inspected after you Oh yeah, after, after You know, make sure all the lights and the horns and all that stuff worked. I like the
Sean P. Holman (1h 34m 28s):
54 Grill, by the way, on that body style. The, the the slant cab. Oh yeah. Was the big window. Yeah. I love the
19 (1h 34m 33s):
That. So cool. Well so, so this truck, the cab is beautiful. It doesn’t have any rust anywhere on the truck. Wow. Any ru any rust through, it’s got some surface rust in a couple places and the cab’s got maybe three or four small dents in it, but every other panel on that truck is trash. I Mean, the, the fenders are cut and curled under and Yeah, it’s just, but the cab is You know the cab is beautiful. That’s the
Sean P. Holman (1h 34m 56s):
Hard part.
19 (1h 34m 57s):
Yeah. But there’s, there’s only You know there’s only so many 54 Fords left. They don’t really make ’em anymore. and I kind of always wanted a Effy. So I got that and nice. It’s just, it’s, and so then the Dakota, I was wanting to do a rebo on the, on the Ford put it on Mon chassis and So I picked the Dakota up real cheap and the guy said it had a rod knock, but it was running So I trailered it home and went and spent $200 on a battery. When did batteries get to be $200 anyway?
Sean P. Holman (1h 35m 28s):
No kidding. And they only last two years now versus They used to last seven eight.
19 (1h 35m 31s):
Yeah. So I put, I, I put a battery in it and got it started and running and put a rod through the side of the block right away. So
Sean P. Holman (1h 35m 38s):
I was expecting you to say something like you had marble mystery oil added to it and it run another 200,000 miles.
19 (1h 35m 46s):
But for, but for as cheap as I bought it, I don’t care. It’s a You know it’s an old five two Mopar, so Oh,
Sean P. Holman (1h 35m 52s):
That’s a simple engine.
19 (1h 35m 53s):
I’ll probably, I’ll probably put a five nine in
Sean P. Holman (1h 35m 55s):
It. 3 3 18. Yeah, go to 360.
19 (1h 35m 57s):
Yeah. Yeah. Go to a 360. Yeah. Nice. Although I’ve got a four 40 sitting in the garage. I, I’ve, so I’ve been thinking about just sticking the
Sean P. Holman (1h 36m 4s):
Four 40 and that, but throw a wedge motor and just let the rear, the truck just leave the whole backend behind.
19 (1h 36m 12s):
I’m gonna, yeah, I’m gonna have to put a nine inch or an eight eight or something.
Sean P. Holman (1h 36m 15s):
Yeah. Yeah. You’re just gonna need a little bit more. Although I wonder if he does the five nine, what would, would, would the tires smoke more or the engine?
19 (1h 36m 23s):
Well probably the tire. Well, yeah.
Sean P. Holman (1h 36m 26s):
Depends how many miles.
19 (1h 36m 27s):
Definitely the tires. Yeah. So. anyway, those are both just kind of projects they’re waiting around on You know, getting, getting going. I, Mean, I’m working 60, 70 hours a week, so I’m not,
Sean P. Holman (1h 36m 38s):
Well make sure you make time for yourself and some much truck projects.
19 (1h 36m 42s):
Well, and, and so then here recently I bought a, I bought an 86 F two 50 and I’ve been, I’ve been tinkering with it and stuff and then had a little mishap on the motorcycle and it’s been in the shop for a while and I had to start daily driving the F two 50, which you never would really want to daily drive something until it’s ready. But, but it’s doing okay. It’s got a, it’s got the five eight in it and You know the big sterling rear axle and Dana, what is it, 44 front? It’s got the twin traction beam. Yep.
Sean P. Holman (1h 37m 12s):
TTB
19 (1h 37m 13s):
And yeah, I, I like it. I I know everybody wants a solid axle, but I,
Sean P. Holman (1h 37m 18s):
I like t tb you can beat the crap out of it. The only thing that sticks about TTB is the radical camber change going around corners. But if You know how to drive one of those Yeah. Impossible to, to hurt it. They just, they just take yeah. Take the abuse. What’s the long-term plan for it?
19 (1h 37m 31s):
I don’t even know if I’m gonna paint it. I sent y’all a picture. It’s sunburned really, really bad. I Mean almost all the way down to the rockers. I’ve got some of the parts to do the interior, but right now I’m putting a little bit of a, I’m putting a leveling kit on the front and I’m gonna put 30 fives on it. New wheels. I may or may not throw a coat of flat black or I might just drive it sunburned. I’m not sure what I’m gonna do with that part, but just get it running Good. So I can drive it. And then I’d like to go up to, they’re doing the full size invasion in Moab, but I’d love to go up there for that. Yeah. I go through m I, go through Moab twice every day.
Sean P. Holman (1h 38m 5s):
Yeah. What do you think of the, the whole con conversation about building the bypass highway so the trucks can bypass downtown? That’s super controversial in that town.
19 (1h 38m 14s):
Is is it? I I didn’t really know anything about it, but it, it seems like You know they got signs. The trucks are supposed to go to the center lane when we go through the center of town there. Yeah. Which You know you? I I generally try to go to the center lane when I’m going through a town anyway just because I don’t wanna be going by the park cars real close.
Sean P. Holman (1h 38m 32s):
Oh yeah, yeah, of course. And
19 (1h 38m 34s):
Yeah. And it gives you a little more reaction time so you don’t hit a pedestrian or Yeah. It would probably be better for the town. I don’t know. Yeah. To get the trucks outta town’s
Sean P. Holman (1h 38m 43s):
Supposed to be, if there’s truck stop on 1 91 south out of town being built at some point. But I don’t know if they, they fought that or if it’s not built yet. But that was something a few years ago. They’re talking about having a truck stop down there.
19 (1h 38m 55s):
Well right now, I know if I run through there early, early in the morning, like two or three o’clock, there’s trucks parked all along. Main Street on the shoulder. Yeah. In town and I. I I had never thought we that would be a good place to, or I didn’t figure the city wanted us there, but yeah, they seemed to let ’em, they seemed to let ’em park there for overnight for their 10 hours.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 39m 14s):
Donald, what’s the situation with truckers pulling over at all sorts of spots? Off ramps on Ramps side streets? I’m guessing
Sean P. Holman (1h 39m 24s):
It’s logging hours, right? Well
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 39m 25s):
I’m just saying like, but and it, it’s most typically at night of course
Sean P. Holman (1h 39m 29s):
Sleeping, your log book is full and you gotta go pull over. Now my
19 (1h 39m 31s):
Question is, well yeah. So
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 39m 33s):
Are there legalities, like can you just pull over wherever the hell you want is? ’cause there’s guys, like,
19 (1h 39m 37s):
It depends in Miss in Mississippi you can’t, it just depends on the state but, or and local restrictions. But a lot of places build a wide shoulder on the, on-ramps and off-ramps just so the trucks will have a place to park for overnight. You know with the electronic logs, once you’re, once your log says you’re out of time to drive, you have to be stopped. you know, we don’t get a ticket automatically if we go over our hours, but if we get You know, we get inspected in that next two week timeframe you would get a ticket. And then the other thing is the company safety guy’s looking at your logs. So, so you can get in trouble with the company for going over your hours too. ’cause the company could get in trouble
Sean P. Holman (1h 40m 16s):
And is it all electronic now so they can see it live? Yeah,
19 (1h 40m 20s):
They can’t see it live. They have, when you get inspected, you either they give you an email address to send it to or there’s a function that just sends it over the wifi to their computer. Oh, interesting. At the port. And so they can see two weeks worth of logs. Like I’m running basically 700 miles a day and Whoa my speeds limited. The other thing is companies limit our speeds. The insurance companies limit our speeds through the company. So, I can run 75, which is pretty fast, but I’m running 700 miles and the fastest I can go is 75. And of course the speed limit where it’s lower than that. Well,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 40m 54s):
So is that electronically limited or? Oh it is.
19 (1h 40m 57s):
Yeah. The, the truck is limited. It’s in the, it’s in the computer. They can plug into the OBD port and change it. Most vehicles are limited from the factory to top speeds. I’ve heard y’all talk about that, but like it used to be a hundred miles an hour.
Sean P. Holman (1h 41m 10s):
Yeah. Depends these days. You know, you know, on tire rating and things like that. So, I wanted
19 (1h 41m 15s):
You know. Isn’t the Raptor limited ’cause of tires?
Sean P. Holman (1h 41m 17s):
Yeah, Raptor and TRX. The TRX has a 18 inch, I think it’s a S rated, which is one no s might be one 12. It’s whatever’s after that t where it’s rated to 117 or something that
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 41m 33s):
I think just shy of one 20. Yeah. Not that I would know. I know.
Sean P. Holman (1h 41m 36s):
1 17, 180. That might be
19 (1h 41m 40s):
How I know you have to put some, which those stock put some Z rated tires on it. Well
Sean P. Holman (1h 41m 43s):
It’s amazing though. Stock tires are actually kind of marvels of engineering because they have to be able to put up with really bad abuse off offroad and not get a puncture, but also have a speed rating to maintain You know load and heat over, you know, a hundred miles an hour for You know long periods of time. So it’s pretty amazing tire technology today.
19 (1h 41m 59s):
Yeah. That’s asking for a lot in those, in those super trucks.
Sean P. Holman (1h 42m 2s):
Absolutely.
19 (1h 42m 2s):
You know you’re, you’re expecting a lot out of the tires on him.
Sean P. Holman (1h 42m 5s):
Well, I Mean, every time Lightning gets in his, he’s asking a lot out of it as well.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 42m 9s):
Why? Because of my weight. I mean you saying I’m fat. You had to get whatcha
Sean P. Holman (1h 42m 12s):
Talking about you had to get 700 horsepower. You, you make fun of me. I only have 470.
19 (1h 42m 18s):
How much do you weigh? You’ll,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 42m 20s):
I, I wonder who weighs more? You or I
Sean P. Holman (1h 42m 22s):
Two 15. Oh,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 42m 23s):
I, yeah, I’m, I’m like two 13.
Sean P. Holman (1h 42m 25s):
Crap Now. I’m two 12. Just stand by because
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 42m 31s):
You’re gonna let some out right here just to way less Just to,
Sean P. Holman (1h 42m 34s):
Just to beat you. I’m gonna leave you a present right on the seat. how dare
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 42m 38s):
You Donald. Here’s how we close out the, the session. Please let us know what you like and dislike about The Truck Show Podcast
Sean P. Holman (1h 42m 49s):
The host. Well
19 (1h 42m 50s):
Stop it. They’re not anything I dislike. I’ve only I’ve only been listening to y’all for about four months, which I only started listening podcasts about six months ago. Okay. And so about 10 hours a day. I’m bing and I’m gonna be in trouble when I run out old episodes.
Sean P. Holman (1h 43m 8s):
Well, don’t worry, you have our phone number now we’re only a phone call away, so if you need Oh, okay. You, somebody to talk to you before you bed down for the night. Wait
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 43m 15s):
A minute. It’s like I ran out of episodes. Can you talk to me for an hour? Yeah.
Sean P. Holman (1h 43m 20s):
I Mean. That’s a great service. So we can, we can expand the podcast, personalized podcasting, get some new innovation from Truck Famous LLC.
19 (1h 43m 28s):
Yeah. I love the show. I mean you guys, you talk to the bigwigs at all the, all the manufacturers and I You know I’m talking Ford and Chevy not well, yeah. Chevy and Dodge and Ram and it’s pretty cool the the guys you get on the show and the embargoes get a little irritating, but that’s okay. What exactly, exactly. I love Emmy. She’s she’s cool.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 43m 55s):
Oh, she loves you too. Five Star.
19 (1h 43m 58s):
Yeah. Oh, did she
Sean P. Holman (1h 43m 59s):
Just get, get done? The Five Star You know I gave
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 44m 1s):
Her a five. Yeah. Gave him five stars.
19 (1h 44m 3s):
I just, I just listened to that episode last week. It’s in the forties or fifties I think. And I didn’t realize it was Emmy until I heard the episode.
Sean P. Holman (1h 44m 13s):
Very nice. Oh, you heard
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 44m 14s):
The original one where she gave us five stars? Yeah. Okay.
19 (1h 44m 17s):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So So I always listened to the new one Monday morning and then sometimes, well, when I first started listening, I started with like the first episode and was gonna catch up because that’s what I did on some of the other podcasts I listened to before I found you. And, and then I realized, wow, this is, it was kind of old information. It’s like I better listen to some of the new ones and come backwards and All. right. That’s fair. And So I did So I did that. And so now I’ve got, I don’t know, about a hundred episodes in the middle. I need to listen to really enjoying them.
Sean P. Holman (1h 44m 49s):
Well we appreciate you. Thank you so much.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 44m 51s):
Thank you for listening. Thank you for supporting our, our, our sponsors. Thank you for supporting Nissan. Oh
19 (1h 44m 57s):
Well
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 44m 57s):
We appreciate it.
19 (1h 44m 58s):
Can I ask one question? Absolutely. On the, does Banks have a pedal monster coming for the Frontier?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 45m 5s):
As a matter of fact we do. How about, how about you and I? I’ll be
19 (1h 45m 9s):
Watching for
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 45m 9s):
That. You and I stay in touch and the moment we have it I will get one off to you. How about that?
19 (1h 45m 16s):
Oh, I appreciate that. That’s awesome. Awesome.
Sean P. Holman (1h 45m 18s):
That that’s our, our thank you for spending some time with us today.
19 (1h 45m 21s):
Alright, well thank you guys. Yep. And
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 45m 23s):
Just remember it
19 (1h 45m 23s):
Was great to talk to you, to Lightning a
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 45m 25s):
Holman. Yep. Donald. Just remember, thanks for
20 (1h 45m 27s):
Watching and remember everything matters.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 45m 29s):
Everything matters. I have no idea what that means, but it’s funny.
Sean P. Holman (1h 45m 34s):
All right?
19 (1h 45m 34s):
Well we, yeah. It’s All. right.
Sean P. Holman (1h 45m 35s):
We appreciate you and and thanks for taking some time and be safe out there. Thank
19 (1h 45m 40s):
You guys. I appreciate it. And
Sean P. Holman (1h 45m 41s):
Also, if there’s a black TRX that doesn’t use this blinker and cuts you off and doesn’t leave enough breaking room, that would be Lightning I know what you’re talking about. Podcast I know.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 45m 51s):
Dunno what you’re saying right now. Well,
19 (1h 45m 52s):
I I don’t think your gvr is enough for me to be it in the bed. You might want, you might not want to do that.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 45m 60s):
Hey Bob, I don’t have your address. We need to send you a sticker so Donald hit me back. Oh okay. Text me back your address and I’ll fire you off a couple stickers ’cause we need, we need one on the Pete, we need one on your wife’s Toyota Tundra. Is it a tundra? Yep. And
Sean P. Holman (1h 46m 12s):
The one on the front we
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 46m 13s):
Need one on, one on the frontier. She has a
19 (1h 46m 15s):
Alright. All. right enough. Sounds great. Thanks Donald All right brother. Alright, thank you gentlemen.
Sean P. Holman (1h 46m 20s):
Talk soon. You gotta talk to you All. right? All right. Bye-Bye bye.
19 (1h 46m 22s):
Alright, bye.
Sean P. Holman (1h 46m 23s):
All right. What do you say? We get into some listener emails.
2 (1h 46m 28s):
You email? Yeah, I email Do it. We email. That’s right. Everybody email type it up. You email proofread. I email send it. We email. Click it every email.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 46m 46s):
All right? Holman’s divvying up the email over on his side of the bench. I gotta open up this one in, in pages here, which is like the Mac version of Word. ’cause I had to,
Sean P. Holman (1h 47m 2s):
Yeah. What happened? Your computer, did you get your computer working or the whole thing dead?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 47m 6s):
I didn’t. It’s still dead. Yeah. Did you Windows took a crap. Did
Sean P. Holman (1h 47m 8s):
You back it up?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 47m 10s):
No. No. Like the, I don’t think that my hard drives are dead. Like all my storage is good but Windows Windows itself took a crap and So I can’t boot and I gotta take it to Microcenter somewhere and and have them do it. and I it’s funny, I gave my little pile, I gave the computer. It’s a nice, really nice Dell gave
Sean P. Holman (1h 47m 30s):
My, it’s not that nice right now.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 47m 31s):
It’s not nice right now. No. and I So I gave it to my kid who’s 18. Yeah. And I said go over there during the week and get it fixed for me. Okay. You got nothing else going on. He’s not working right now. He’s got another two weeks before school starts. Your first year is college
Sean P. Holman (1h 47m 45s):
And he went to sleep.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 47m 46s):
So he drives down there. Yeah. All it’s like from Long Beach to Santa Ana, it’s whatever. 40 minutes he goes down there, he walks in the door and he goes, he calls me, he goes, dad, the line’s really long. I’m gonna go home. And he freaking goes
Sean P. Holman (1h 47m 57s):
Home. Yeah, well that’s bad parent training right there. It’s like
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 48m 0s):
Goes So, I. Go, dude, you just drove 40 minutes. That’s a Jewish issue. Get the freaking computer fixed.
Sean P. Holman (1h 48m 4s):
Ah, nope. Well I and you, you probably fed him that night too, didn’t you? Of course. Yeah. Yep. Yeah, that’s why
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 48m 13s):
All right? I’m gonna start with the world’s longest email from Dane. He was the one I teased over from last show. Lightning and Holman or Holman and Lightning. Has this been solved yet? Yes, it’s Lightning and Holman. So it says on the T-shirt, which you guys haven’t seen so you’ll have to take my word for it. I’ve been a listener since episode six. I know it must be hard to believe but you’ve kept the suckage at a moderate enough level to keep this listener entertained all this time.
Sean P. Holman (1h 48m 37s):
That’s funny ’cause I’ve also been listening since episode six
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 48m 41s):
And Me Too, love all the interviews with industry leaders, reviews news and listener emails that you bring to the show. by the way, this should be a freaking review, Dane, if you haven’t left a review, put all this that you’re about to tell me on Apple podcast app. Five stars please. So he goes on to say this really hits home and brings things full circle for me as someone who works in the research and engineering side of the industry. Previously I worked with Cummins in Columbus, Indiana for over a decade and then relocated to Minnesota in 2018 where I bounced around a few different companies before landing at CVF racing CVF off road in 2020. That’s a tongue twister. CVF offroad.
Sean P. Holman (1h 49m 20s):
CVF offroad.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 49m 21s):
It’s a tough one isn’t it? Say it again. CVF Offroad.
Sean P. Holman (1h 49m 23s):
CVF offroad.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 49m 25s):
I guess it’s not that tough working on the engineering side of things. Most of the customer feedback that gets us is the negative stuff. Common phrases like this broke, this should be stronger, this would work better for my unique application if only.dot internally within the company. It doesn’t get much better with phrases like you need to reduce cost by X and it must maintain the same strength and durability and so on. I’m sure you can see how over time this can beat you down and think everything you make is absolute junk. Fortunately there is The, Truck, Show, Podcast that brings a refreshing reminder of all the positive customer interactions. Hmm, okay. You shed a light on the fact that more than 99% of customer interactions that never get to us are fantastic.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 50m 11s):
They actually like what we make or should I say love, love to a point where they get dare I say tribal before arguing about whose product is better on Facebook or even getting a logo tattoo, the love abounds. Anyway, This is a long roundabout way of saying thank you. I really appreciate what you guys do for the industry. You have earned a lifetime listener and supporter.
Sean P. Holman (1h 50m 34s):
Nice. Appreciate that.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 50m 37s):
So I’ve got two questions I’d like to ask you guys. First one is for me, the second one is for CVF offroad. For some context on the personal question, I’ve been a ZR two fan since they were first released on the S 10 platform when the ZR two was released on the Colorado platform. I was super amped but have been a little leery on pulling the trigger. It’s not uncommon for first year models to have bugs. So it doesn’t hurt to wait a few years before purchasing. I would you agree with that Holman? Yeah,
Sean P. Holman (1h 51m 2s):
Absolutely.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 51m 3s):
Okay. Then you hear about the new turbo four cylinder engine being designed. That sounds phenomenal. Wait a little longer now. GM releases the new engine performance packages for all the four cylinder turbo engines. And this is where my predicament comes in. I prefer a more stripped down vehicle. So my first question is get a base model truck and install $10,000 worth of coilovers upper control arms, leaf pack wheels and tires and locking diffs or just buy the ZR two because a base truck will never really be a ZR two, the cost of modifying a base truck will probably still be under the cost of a ZR two. I do pull a light trailer and a boat from time to time and only serious off-Road a few times a year on fire roads or two track current truck is a 2008 Silverado Quad cab with Fox Coil overs over control arms, D of leaf springs and two bumpers I built.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 51m 52s):
So let’s answer that first question and then I’ll go to the second question. Holman, do you choose the ZR two that’s got all the bells and whistles from the get-go? Or do you buy the base model and upfit it
Sean P. Holman (1h 52m 3s):
All? right. So for me I would just get the ZR two, but that’s me. It depends. You know your mileage may vary. It depends on your use case. The issue is is I don’t think you can get a GM performance factory tune for the base model and now with 2024 they’re getting rid of the mid. So you’re gonna get the upgraded engine anyway, which you would’ve gotten anyway with the zero two. As far as output goes, you’re gonna add I, I’m not sure the aftermarket is caught up with the Colorado platform yet where they have a front locker for example. So you’re gonna get all that from the factory, you’re gonna get a warranty, you’re gonna have the engine with all the proper cooling to tow, do all that kinda stuff. Sure you could buy a base model truck and add all that stuff, but you’re still gonna be missing some things.
Sean P. Holman (1h 52m 43s):
You know chassis bits that are gonna give it it more capability. So on this particular one, if you’re asking me which way I would go, I’d get the zero two, be happy and have a trolley functioning truck and wrap it into one payment. Not have to build it over time
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 52m 55s):
And I agree with you but for different reasons. I look at it like a young guy who is cost conscious and really enjoys building a truck over time, right? You spend a couple years and you make it your own, but then as you get older and Don don’t know how old he is, but I feel like time becomes more precious and it makes more sense just to buy something that is right from the get go. And then of course you’re gonna do some small things, tint the windows, put wheels and tires on stuff like that.
Sean P. Holman (1h 53m 20s):
There’s still plenty to do to a zero too, right? Right.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 53m 21s):
I know, but you’re not, but you’re not, you’re not doing heavy lifting. Right? When you buy the base model, you’re doing a lot of heavy lifting to get it to the ZR two level. But if you start with a ZR two then you’re just gonna play around every couple of months you’ll add something and it’s a lot easier and you’ve got the base already handled. You know,
Sean P. Holman (1h 53m 36s):
Just get the ZR two and be happy. Yeah, that’s all.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 53m 39s):
So Dane, the second question you had is kind of inside baseball and you’re asking about influencers and how to get people to listen, be interested in your product. So. I,
Sean P. Holman (1h 53m 51s):
Yeah. You’re trying to get exposure for the the new brand. I would say this email your favorite podcast and see if they’ll read your brand on the air and expose it for free to, there are millions of listeners, right?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 54m 2s):
Or and the answer is no.
Sean P. Holman (1h 54m 4s):
Thousands of listeners All. right? Here’s the deal. I have a problem with influencers generally speaking, I don’t like the term I like to, to more ambassador and you may go, oh, it’s just You know, it’s it’s vernacular. What’s the difference between a influencer and an ambassador? To me as an ambassador is somebody who liked your brand before you or anything. That person’s more likely to be loyal to you because they’re already a fan of the the product and if they’ve grown their own deal, stick with them. You said you’ve got CVF racing. Do you have any guys on the racing side that also are off roaders that have a following, engage those people that have already been fans of the brand you’re already familiar with working with them. Don’t go chase everybody else. Most of the influencer game, these people don’t have very good engagement.
Sean P. Holman (1h 54m 47s):
They bought their followers. It’s really hard to figure out You know who the good guys are versus who the guys who say
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 54m 54s):
They’re good. And, and I can tell you this, Dan, I do this for Banks on the, on the Daily and I have reached out to million plus subscriber accounts, right? A guy like Tevar for example, and I, I love Freddy. He’s an awesome dude and I love his channel, but he hasn’t moved the needle for us for, for selling parts. He, he might sell like video games and stuff like that, but when it comes to our parts it doesn’t work. What moves the needle for, for Banks specifically is a guy with like a thousand followers and his followers are friends and family and people that really love what he does. That’s why they’re following him. And when he says, I just bought this thing, those thousand people really perk up and actually doesn
Sean P. Holman (1h 55m 37s):
And they’re real followers.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 55m 38s):
They’re real followers.
Sean P. Holman (1h 55m 38s):
Yeah. So they’re people that are going to be interested in what that person has to say. Anyway, all I’m saying is don’t get sucked into the influencer trap. There are better ways to get in front of people that have a higher engagement with lower numbers of followers. And today to access those followers anyway, you have to pay a premium. So people have to amp their posts. So a lot of those guys are gonna cost a lot of money. So work with those guys that are maybe five to 10, 15,000 followers that you already know, that you already have relationships with that might already know the brand and, and work through them. So you’ll probably see a lot more ROI for a lot less outlay
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 56m 12s):
And You know what else? And this is gonna sound silly, but look, you’re already watching YouTube. I at least I hope you are or or somebody on your marketing team. If you, if you see an a a a video that’s in your feed that’s being recommended to you and it’s offroad related, reach out to the dude. Most people, most not all but most will have a contact on their About me page on YouTube and just write ’em an email. Go, Hey, I’m at, I’m at CVF offroad and we have these bumpers. Would you like to to try ’em? And by the way, the new currency has product so don’t be afraid to send out promo product to the right people. So that is what we are telling you. Dane, it’s an awesome email. Thank you for listening, we appreciate it.
Sean P. Holman (1h 56m 48s):
All right, I got this one from Nicholas Ano black license plate says Hey guys I know Lightning is dying for a black license plate. So I thought I’d share some cool ones We have here in Wisconsin we have collaborations with Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee Brewers, Harley Davidson, and now Road America for Cool License Plate Options. Road America is a legendary four mile race course track that is arguably one of if not the best tracks here in America. It provides 14 unique turns and multiple elevation changes to challenge even the best driver. If you find yourself with Wisconsin, you should check it out. Anyways, I obviously love the track and jumped at the opportunity to show my support. Plus a black plate with a white vehicle just looks so good. Also, I sent the email below and you even read it on the podcast but never received any stickers.
Sean P. Holman (1h 57m 28s):
What gives Lightning he gives back to us in July. So he’s probably got ’em by now. Keep it with the great work guys. Yeah buddy. And five stars. Cheers Nick.
21 (1h 57m 38s):
Yeah buddy. Five star review, five stars.
Sean P. Holman (1h 57m 43s):
And by the way, the Road America license plate for Wisconsin has the track outline and your man Lightning here saw the photo and said, said and
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 57m 50s):
I think it’s a limp Fellas.
Sean P. Holman (1h 57m 51s):
He said, why is Wisconsin shaped so funny? I was like, that is a racetrack sir is a wait, wait, wait. That’s a true story. What do
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 57m 60s):
Don’t do I need the address? Have I sent him stickers? I don’t know.
Sean P. Holman (1h 58m 3s):
I don’t know. It should be in the in the sticker pile.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 58m 5s):
Why? You could just unfold that. Give it to me. No, uncrumple it and hand it to me. Come on now don’t make it. Ah, throw it at me. This one looks like it is from Mr. Kimmel Ryan. Love the show. I’ve listened to everyone probably twice by the way. He doesn’t say probably. He writes P-R-O-L-L-Y Ley. Probably.
Sean P. Holman (1h 58m 24s):
Probably.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (1h 58m 24s):
What’s up all about Banks Also have Banks products on my 93 4 60 and my 2005 six oh and run hot shots in oil and fuel with ams. Oil. Oil. Hope it lasts forever. Thank you Ryan.
Sean P. Holman (1h 58m 39s):
Okay, it went from Gregory VanderPol says SUVs. Hi Holman and Lightning. I have written in backwards. Nope, I have written in several times and really enjoyed the show. I know you guys have a list of things that can define whether something is a pickup truck, but I’m curious what criteria you would use to tell a vehicle’s an SUV or something else. I personally think that an SUV should have the option to come with four-wheel drive and be rear Wheel drive platform. Not four-wheel drive. if I was making a list of things that make up an SUV, they would be one, the option to be four-wheel drive, two rear Wheel drive three body on frame four at least nine inches of ground clearance. I would say that a vehicle would have to have at least three of those things on the list. I also might consider all-wheel drive as a viable option, but I’m not convinced an all Wheel drive vehicle could be a true SUV.
Sean P. Holman (1h 59m 20s):
I’m curious to hear your thoughts and I will say you are wrong Gregory, because unlike pickup trucks that require a body on frame, SUVs actually sprouted from Unibo. If you look back at the Jeep Cherokee xj, which was the first of the family focused smaller SUVs back in the early eighties. And if you go back further, there are lots of body on frame SUVs like travel laws and Grand Wagoneers and Chiefs and Cherokees and Suburbans and all sorts of stuff. But SUVs have really become something different. But there’s still the wagons on wheels where I would say the truck capability was first. That’s why we have certain things of what makes a pickup truck.
Sean P. Holman (2h 0m 1s):
SUV was all about family hauling and I think it’s all about passenger space and versatile utility. I think that you should have an option to have four Wheel drive. I agree with that. I think you should have more ground clearance than a car, but I don’t necessarily think rear Wheel drive and body and frame matters much in this category. That’s my personal opinion.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 0m 20s):
This one’s from Evan Blurry Frontier spotting Lighting and Holman sending this again because it’s been two months in even though you seem to be unreliable. I don’t think you guys are two months unreliable
Sean P. Holman (2h 0m 34s):
Laughing. You’d be surprised
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 0m 35s):
Out loudly. Yes, he would’ve been seeing the new frontier everywhere lately, but I’m absolute trash at getting my new phone out in time. Here’s two of the better picks I’ve been able to snap. I promise they are actually frontiers and not 40-year-old Tacomas Pss. My buddy has the new Bronco and been wheeling it a lot lately. Our closest park is the A OAA anthracite off-Road adventure area and it’s your typical east coast, tight, rocky woodsy old coal mine land. This thing really shows its size when you’re at a park where two doors seem to dominate other than its sheer size. The other thing that bothers me is a lack of underside protection.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 1m 15s):
Especially since This is a wild track. The first time out we poked a hole in this plastic trans pan with a branch plastic. I guess I can understand a plastic pan on cars that stay on pavement like Toyota’s BMWs Ram 15 hundreds. But an off-road vehicle designed to be a Jeep killer just doesn’t make sense to me. Also the massive unprotected gas tank that hangs almost as low as the rear rear axle. What the, I added that man. These sharp rocks are just itching to rip that thing open. As a huge Ford fan, I was low key hoping that the Bronco was gonna be a real threat to the Wrangler, but I feel like it’s just not, at least on the East coast.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 1m 57s):
What are your opinions on the Bronco versus Wrangler? I think it’s a great first attempt but also needs a lot of refinement and some damn underbody protection. I’ll be sticking with the JT also. Does the back of a two-door Bronco feel like the back of a cop car or is it just me? The podcast is better than ever guys. Keep up the kick ass work. Keep on mounting those parameters and yeah buddy from Emmy.
22 (2h 2m 21s):
Yeah buddy
Sean P. Holman (2h 2m 24s):
By the way. I talked to her today. Oh yeah. And she’s like, Hey are you going on this trip? I’m like, yep. She goes, let’s do some podcasts. I’m like, Hmm, we’ll see Mount
23 (2h 2m 32s):
Monitor key engine
Sean P. Holman (2h 2m 34s):
Parameters. No, that’s not true. I actually told her, I told her Let’s do it. I
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 2m 39s):
Got one by that. That was from Jeeper Jones. Thank
Sean P. Holman (2h 2m 40s):
You. Jeeper Jones All, right. Oh by the way, are we
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 2m 43s):
Gonna answer
Sean P. Holman (2h 2m 43s):
This question? Yeah, I was gonna say, answer this question. Listen, here’s, here’s how I take the Bronco Raptor. Bronco is a very specific crazy build. The Raptor is like unlike anything else out there. It’s an ultra four that’s street legal. It’s so, it’s in a different category. Everything else. The best way to look at it is the Bronco is a Toyota four runner competitor that has a convertible roof. It’s,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 3m 8s):
Oh, that’s an interesting take.
Sean P. Holman (2h 3m 9s):
It’s not a Wrangler. I think people automatically want to put it against Wrangler. ’cause Ford told them that’s what it should be put up against. But when you look at the capability out of the box, the Wrangler really is next level when it comes to at least slow stuff, crawling, all that kinda stuff. The Bronco is good. There’s some stuff that could be better. I don’t dislike it, but I also don’t think it is a Wrangler and I. Think if you look at a forerunner
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 3m 35s):
Now you’re not saying that because you’re a Wrangler fan. You’re saying it from a
Sean P. Holman (2h 3m 38s):
Journalist. I, I consult, I consulted with Ford on Bronco for five years. I’m very familiar with Bronco. I’m an offered enthusiast. What I’m saying is, from the capability standpoint and from the better road manners and from what you can do in daily life, I think the Bronco lines up a lot better with a, with a four runner. When you look at the more hardcore rock crawling extreme stuff, the Wrangler’s a much better platform like crawling around Moab and stuff like that. There’ll be people who are good drivers who have a Bronco and play in that game and they’re in that community and they’re gonna, no, I Bronco could do this. Well that’s fine. You could probably
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 4m 10s):
Do, they say like they’re on the Virgin
Sean P. Holman (2h 4m 11s):
Of Tears. It’s, I see it online every day and you, you could drive your Bronco 10 tenths and do some amazing things with it, but somebody driving a Wrangler offroad and the same thing and 10 tenths is gonna have a lot more success. And it’s, again, it’s a good first swing. I, I like ’em a lot. I had a chance to buy one. I chose not to because I thought it wasn’t quite what I needed for the way I recreate. That’s okay.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 4m 32s):
There’s your answer. Jeep
Sean P. Holman (2h 4m 34s):
All, right. Nicola spotting from Brian Hanzel says Mr. Holman and Mr. Lightning Tillis and parentheses, thank you for reading my email on your most recent podcast. Totally made my morning. However, I am writing to you to write a wrong, I forgot to include a ship to address for that. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I will include my address for you to use at your leisure to send cigars, whiskey, Jeep parts or snacks. Haha. Anyway, love the podcast. So Lighting here is Brian’s All, right? I’m gonna put everybody mail so you can send him something. This I’m lovely
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 5m 2s):
The sand some stickers and I’m gonna old unfold this one here, All. right? And now we’ve got some stickers going out. I sent a dozen sets of stickers out last week, so I’m doing okay. It’s not like T-shirts. T-shirts. I don’t think I sent any but stickers man. Hundreds of sets of stickers. I said Hundreds. Hundreds. Literally hundreds.
Sean P. Holman (2h 5m 22s):
All. right? I’m gonna throw one last email in before we check out the show. ’cause this actually has a question that I think would be pretty interesting. Okay. and I, think Lightning you might actually be able to help out with this one. All, right? Hit me with it. Colin Needham says New truck. Hello gentlemen. I think all the skewed ways of using your name have been done to death. So he doesn’t do any of ’em. That’s fine. Appreciate that. Says, I’m wondering what you think of my situation. I’m currently, and I’ve always been a driver of half ton pickup trucks. All F1 fifties, actually not loyal to Forded. All just the best price product for what I needed at the time. But here’s the thing. I hauled tow almost every day, but only a six by 10 cargo trailer. About 3000 pounced on some weekends. A new 26 foot travel trailer and maybe a quad in the bed trailer. 7,000 pounced. I’m looking at going the HD route now for payload.
Sean P. Holman (2h 6m 4s):
Would I be completely crazy to go with the new Diesel test? Drove the 20, 24, 3500 durmax and it was awesome. Better price and drove better than the Ford. The company I worked for pays for all my fuel and all my current lease payments. I would dang I know. I would have to make the difference if I went to the new Diesel, but no big deal. I fear if I do gas hd, I’m gonna be disappointed in the long run. Always comparing the Ecot engine power first world problems need input. The e eco bursts. That’s what he said. First world of problems. Need your input. Thanks Colin. And five stars from Emmy. Five star
21 (2h 6m 34s):
Review. Five stars,
Sean P. Holman (2h 6m 37s):
All, right? Here’s the deal Colin. If you are familiar with Fords, which you are with your F1 fifties and you’re not a big fan of the eco boosts and you wanna move to the HD and you don’t want shell out any money and your company’s gonna pay for it, I think you’d be really happy with a super duty with a seven three. It’ll do everything you want it to do. It’s a big old push Rod V eight, they’re paying for gas so you don’t care about fuel economy and it’ll more than adequately tow 7,000 pounced and it has the payload you’re looking for and it’s familiar to all the other trucks that you’ve had in terms of You know the controls and the steering and the drive and all that kind of stuff. I think it’d be great if you do wanna step up to an hd. I would only say my one hesitation for anybody buying a new HD truck is do you tow enough to make sure and have a long enough drive to make sure you can get through a regen cycle so that you don’t screw up your emission stuff and clog up your, your DPF.
Sean P. Holman (2h 7m 29s):
If you do do that and you work the truck enough, I have no issues reco recommending a a Diesel to anybody. I think they’re great trucks. The power’s amazing. I just think it’s so over the top now for most people. I think a seven three Ford you would be incredibly happy with and your company would pay for everything. Nothing outta pocket if you didn’t wanna go. Diesel. I, I agree. GM is really hitting their stride right now with that new Chevy or G. M. C with the durmax great, great trucks. Does it?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 7m 57s):
I I cannot argue with anything you’re saying and I think, I’m glad that you brought up the Diesel inappropriateness with the the hds. ’cause I, man I just had another one yesterday at work. The guy’s like, ah, this thing’s always in region. I go, no, no, it’s not always in region. Yeah, it’s one region that you’re never letting it complete. and I go, this is gonna be a disgusting analogy, but imagine going to the bathroom and your wife screams fire, you clench and you don’t get to finish. Right? So then that was
Sean P. Holman (2h 8m 21s):
Oddly specific
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 8m 22s):
Lightning and then you, and then
Sean P. Holman (2h 8m 25s):
Why couldn’t she just say, can you get the front door? There’s a fire
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 8m 27s):
Now. That too, whatever she says, it interrupts you. You know what I Mean. It’s super weird. See, pitch a loaf, right? And then so then, but you still have to go. It’s not all the way out, right? It’s like the dog that squats around the front yard. He just can’t get the whole thing out. He’s, that’s so he waddles
Sean P. Holman (2h 8m 39s):
Is that really the analogy that we’re
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 8m 41s):
Going with? That’s the analogy I’m going with. Your truck has to go to the bathroom, okay. And the DPFs gotta get cleaned out. And so these guys like All, right? I I can’t, it’s always, I go, it’s not in Regen all the time. You know. and you, how,
Sean P. Holman (2h 8m 53s):
What’s your daily commute to work? 10 minutes and you’re going the, the, the block of that engine isn’t even up to temp by the time you get there. No,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 8m 59s):
The guy’s like 20 minutes isn’t enough. No, the guy’s like, I use the truck only on the weekends to move my boat to the water, which is two miles away. and I’m like, well that’s
Sean P. Holman (2h 9m 6s):
Sorry.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 9m 7s):
And I say you, you got a Caterpillar bulldozer to, to dig a bed of flowers. Yeah. You know. Yeah, totally. It’s just totally just way too much tool.
Sean P. Holman (2h 9m 16s):
So just for all you modern Diesel owners and we’re talking probably what, like 20 ish or so and newer maybe, maybe even before that. Make sure that you’re going on long enough drives that you can go through a DPF regen cycle. Make sure that you’re either towing
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 9m 30s):
And by the way, that’s about half an
Sean P. Holman (2h 9m 31s):
Hour. Yep. And make sure that you’re towing or working the truck or payload every once in a while. That thing needs to be under low. So it can blow all that bad stuff outta the back and keep you going. If you’re using it as a daily driver, you will have problems if you are doing short commutes like under 20 minutes, not, not enough for the, the modern Diesel.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 9m 49s):
So if that’s you, then the seven three as Holman suggested, because the six six gas, I’m not, I’m not impressed with neither of us are
Sean P. Holman (2h 9m 58s):
For the rating. The power just doesn’t feel as good as it should. And the torness of that in just nowhere near what you get in that seven three. And then now there’s even a lower displacement version of the seven three. It’s a six eight V eight for 2024. That’s a little good derate on power. But
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 10m 12s):
Why do you seven three, just do the 7 3 7 3 7 3
Sean P. Holman (2h 10m 15s):
F two 50. Do everything you want and you can keep all your money in your pocket.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 10m 20s):
All right, we’re on the email at truck Show Podcast at gmail.com. Lightning at truck Show Podcast dot com or Holman at truck Show Podcast dot com. The truck
3 (2h 10m 31s):
Show. The truck
Sean P. Holman (2h 10m 33s):
Show. The truck show Whoa. and you can follow us on the socials at lbc Lightning at Sean P holden or at truck Show Podcast. And guys, we haven’t heard from you in a while on the five star hotline. Hit us up. 6 5 7 2 0 5 61 0 5. You almost forgot I almost, it’s been so long since we
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 10m 52s):
Had 6 5 7 2 0 5 61 0 5.
Sean P. Holman (2h 10m 55s):
Make sure you leave us a message. Tell us about what’s up, what’s going on. You bored, you’re driving through the darkness. You almost hit a deer. I don’t know. Interesting. So
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 11m 3s):
I got a question for you. So we asked earlier, we told them that we were, you know, wanted real reviews or we’re calling it You Review. Now that’s the jingle. Do we want them to call us and we’ll do it live or do we want them to leave it on the five star hotline?
Sean P. Holman (2h 11m 17s):
No, we want to, we want them to reach out to us so that we can do a live segment.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 11m 20s):
Okay.
Sean P. Holman (2h 11m 21s):
No, I don’t, I don’t want just a 45 minute voicemail. That would be lame. Yeah, no. Okay,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 11m 26s):
Don, don’t do that. Call and leave a short message for us. 6 5 7 2 0 5 61 0 5 with five star hotline home. and I almost forgot to tell you that I got a little crafty with mechanical engineers at
Sean P. Holman (2h 11m 39s):
Work. Okay.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 11m 40s):
Because You know how, like in about around my area, I guess it’s everywhere now. There’s a lot of catalytic converter theft. Yeah. So, I go to bed every single night when I park the truck in front of my house. ’cause You know I have a single car garage and there’s not a chance in hell that my truck would ever fit inside it. Your
Sean P. Holman (2h 11m 56s):
Truck’s actually wider and taller than your opening of the door.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 11m 58s):
That is
Sean P. Holman (2h 11m 59s):
Quite literally true.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 12m 0s):
Yes. So, I go to bed at night thinking this is gonna be the night that I’m gonna go out tomorrow morning and there’s gonna be metal shavings all over my driveway and there will be no catalytic converters and it’ll just go rah, be super hellaciously loud. So I go to, first I go to Eric in engineering and beg him to help me make catalytic converter cover. And he dragged me on for weeks and weeks. And then I went to little Eric who’s an aspiring mechanical engineer and fabricator and he kind of dragged me along for weeks and weeks. And then I go to Nolan, who’s the new guy, and Nolan helps me. So I made two catalytic converter shields for A TRX.
Sean P. Holman (2h 12m 43s):
Are you sure you want Mr. Banks listening to the show and knowing that that’s how you spent your company resources?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 12m 48s):
I did it after hours with metal that I purchased.
Sean P. Holman (2h 12m 51s):
Okay. That’s probably Is that like you saying you did your last YouTube video in Mexico?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 12m 56s):
I I, yes it is. That’s funny. I So I did use company electricity, but I they’re generally pretty cool with that. So I’m not, I use the plasma table, but that’s not a big deal. You know what I Mean. Why are
Sean P. Holman (2h 13m 8s):
You outing yourself? Does it matter?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 13m 9s):
No, it doesn’t matter. You brought it up.
Sean P. Holman (2h 13m 11s):
I I didn’t bring up the, the 400 different things that
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 13m 15s):
Utensils. I use the listen the appliances
Sean P. Holman (2h 13m 17s):
Cool. You have kinda like converter covers
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 13m 18s):
So anyway. Yeah, I made it.
Sean P. Holman (2h 13m 19s):
You’re gonna saw us All right through the aluminum that you used
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 13m 22s):
And well, it’s, it’s a deterrent. And So I went on Facebook and I said, yeah, I got these things. I’m making them. And do you think anyone’s interested? Because I want, here’s what I told Nolan. I go, look, if we can make these things that he could do cheaply enough, I’ll give you a hundred percent of whatever. ’cause you, he helped me, right? He’s a junior guy. I want him to put a little extra cash in his pocket. So if I sell any, it’s a hundred percent yours. So we’re gonna get a quote from send cut send, send a CAD file off and see what we can make it for. But the point is, wait, wait.
Sean P. Holman (2h 13m 47s):
So you don’t want anything?
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 13m 50s):
It’s not fair. He did the work. He did, he got under the truck. He measured it, he made the first article, he drew it up in CAD and all that stuff. I’m like, I’m just trying to be the cool old man You. know what I’m saying? Okay. Is that not the right thing to do? I
Sean P. Holman (2h 14m 2s):
I’m just, I’m just trying to clarify the story. Yeah,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 14m 3s):
Well, I, Mean look, it’s, he put in labor. I was just there barking orders. So I’m gonna give him any money that we make. So, I go online and I say, Hey, I’m gonna make a couple, any anyone interested. And a couple guys immediately said, yeah, I have to park my truck outside. And two guys live in one Atlanta, two in like Houston area and cats are always getting stole, stolen down there. So they say, yeah, we’re interested. So the guy says like, are these really gonna prevent the theft and I go? Well they’ll prevent theft just like a car alarm. Would You know if a thief really wants something, he’s gonna bring out the big tools and he is gonna figure out a, a way to get whatever he wants. I’m like, that’s just a deterrent. You know it’s gonna cost you bucks. Are you trying
Sean P. Holman (2h 14m 42s):
Bucks trying to sell your new product on The, Truck Show Podcast. I
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 14m 45s):
I Mean.
Sean P. Holman (2h 14m 45s):
I’ll send you an advertising sell sheet if that’s what we’re doing here, sir. No,
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 14m 48s):
No I’m not. I’m just saying I made something and I’m not telling you how to get ’em. Like don’t email me, don’t ask for ’em. ’cause I’m only gonna make a couple of sets and when they’re gone, they’re gone.
Sean P. Holman (2h 14m 56s):
So the point of this was just
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 14m 57s):
The fact that guys were like, are they gonna prevent theft? I’m like, dude, it’s just a little piece.
Sean P. Holman (2h 15m 2s):
Could you hit the button where it says nobody asked for really, really, really, really, really long story. That’s
24 (2h 15m 6s):
Funny. I don’t recall asking for a really,
25 (2h 15m 9s):
Really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really rare,
24 (2h 15m 14s):
Really boring story. My God, Don, you understand, no one cares.
Sean P. Holman (2h 15m 17s):
That’s exactly the, the, that whole thing was made for that particular drop.
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 15m 22s):
I hit the button. I get it.
Sean P. Holman (2h 15m 24s):
Congratulations. All. right? Well, if your Cadillac converters got stolen and you don’t like the price of rare earth metals and they seem like they are the price of a new truck, then head on down your local Nissan dealer. That’s the honest
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 15m 34s):
Tie in ever
Sean P. Holman (2h 15m 35s):
Where you can. Well, I had to use whatever your rambling was to get into our sponsor. So Nissans are presenting sponsor 10, 10 points.

Sean P. Holman (2h 15m 42s):

You need a half ton plus Titan. Titan xd. You want a mid-size ’cause you don’t need that much truck. Nissan Frontier is awesome. You get so much with the Nissans, lot of durability, a lot of ruggedness, just a great truck. Get in and drive it. It’s not, it doesn’t have all these fricking tech things that are in your way. It’s just an honest pickup
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 16m 7s):
Truck. Well, well Hold on a second. It does have CarPlay and Android Auto.
Sean P. Holman (2h 16m 10s):
Yeah. Which is awesome. Yeah. Which every car really should have that, I think almost everybody does now. So Nissan includes it. Have the Fender audio system on the higher trims. It got zero gravity seats and all the trucks great trucks. Nissan usa.com. You can build a price and load it up as little or as much as you want. Or head on down your local Nissan dealer
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 16m 26s):
And you’re driving around a big old air pump that requires
Sean P. Holman (2h 16m 28s):
Fuel to run. And also a catalyst out the back. So head over to Banks, power by Jay and get.com. You know, wait, Hold
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 16m 36s):
On Say No, no, no. This is a Banks thing. Not a, not a Lightning thing. All right. Got it. If you want the best cold air intake on the market
Sean P. Holman (2h 16m 44s):
You know it would be really cold air if there’s no catalyst heating up that area. That
Jay “Lightning” Tilles (2h 16m 47s):
Is true. But if you want one that’s legitimate and it’s 50 state compliance, head over to Banks power.com. Type in your year, make and model. Surprisingly, Banks does have some for gas, mainly Diesel, but quite a big selection. Head over to Banks power.com. Type in your year, make and model and find the Ram Air intake for your truck.
