Legacy truck cap manufacturer LEER enters the modular market with the NexCap, a metal truck cap system featuring 1,700-pound capacity, tool-free installation, and MOLLE compatibility. The $2,999 platform reflects a broader industry shift where versatility has become standard, not optional.

LEER has a long-standing heritage and reputation in the truck cap and topper space, serving both commercial work trucks and outdoor enthusiasts. They have been a household name and a mainstay in the automotive aftermarket industry, building fiberglass and aluminum caps commonly found on commercial fleets to campers and overlanders.

At the 2025 SEMA Show, LEER launched the NexCap, their next-generation modular truck cap, defining the legacy brand’s shift toward modularity. Notably, the NexCap features a durable metal construction capable of supporting 1,700 pounds of gear and can be installed in your driveway with no drilling or professional installation required. Prioritizing the ease of installation, LEER ships the NexCap directly to your door, eliminating the need to wait for custom installation at a shop.

The NexCap is fully customizable and compatible with MOLLE panels and other LEER products, including Bedslide drawers, racks, and slides, giving users complete control over storage and functionality within their rig. The modular truck cap is built to be weather-resistant, protecting your cargo from the elements. Consistent with LEER’s other products, the NexCap features lockable access to help deter theft.

This all-new product is a modern approach from LEER that features a more rugged aesthetic compared to their legacy products that we are accustomed to seeing from the brand. They have yet to release a full list of approved vehicle fitments, but they claim that the NexCap is designed to fit most standard short-bed pickup trucks and is backed by their 3-year limited warranty.

MSRP: $2,999.00

Modularity Is No Longer A Trend, It’s The New Standard

Outdoor enthusiasts crave versatility, especially when their vehicle has to serve as a daily driver and an adventure rig. At a certain point, the want for flexibility becomes a need to invest in products that can evolve with one’s lifestyle.

Take it from someone with way too many hobbies spanning cycling, fishing, woodworking, and everything in between: modularity isn’t just about customization. It’s about owning a product that can grow alongside you in the long term. There’s real value in longevity, and a product that can be upgraded or adapted over time is almost priceless..almost.

Gone are the days of a single static configuration, and LEER’s latest innovation is a testament to that shift. Looking at the NexCap’s features and benefits, it’s clear that brands are now highlighting modularity as a core feature, not an afterthought. What once felt like a trend has become a foundational part of modern product design.

“Build it your way.” “Fits Your Life.” “Tailored Fit and Fully Adjustable.” These phrases are everywhere now, showing up across product pages, features and benefits lists, and marketing campaigns, apparent in every corner of the aftermarket industry. Nowadays, companies are quick to throw around buzzwords like modular, versatile, and customizable when describing their newest innovations. But the bigger question remains: do these terms justify the rising costs of products that arguably should be standard in today’s market? In many cases, yes. A product that grows with the user inherently has a longer lifespan. Where a traditional product might require purchasing an upgrade every few years depending on the item, a modular alternative can last significantly longer, raising the initial entry price, but reducing long-term replacement costs. For consumers, that scenario often pays off over time.

Modularity Makes Its Way To Mainstream

LEER has historically been viewed as a traditional manufacturer, relying on set molds and fixed designs to create their popular fiberglass and aluminum caps, products that have been proven reliable for decades. Their move toward a modular product offering exemplifies how legacy brands are recognizing shifting consumer preferences and adapting to new demand. The NexCap fits into this larger market movement, where it’s less a single product and more a platform to build from. It reflects today’s consumer landscape, where the base product is no longer the end, it’s the beginning.
