High Speed Mounts transforms a field-expedient idea into a professional-grade solution, offering overlanders a permanent, ready-to-use mounting system for Starlink Mini that eliminates setup time and guesswork.
High Speed Mounts has released a professional take on our field-expedient idea: mounting a Starlink Mini directly to a spare tire. We received a sample and immediately put it to use.
Available in two versions, Compact and Dually, the mount secures a Starlink Mini with a 2-inch down strap, offering a simple and rugged solution for mobile connectivity.
We’ve been running the Compact version on both our OVR LC100 and OVR G63 project vehicles to great success. It’s kept our Starlink Mini locked down across thousands of miles of dirt trails, rocky terrain, and paved highways without shifting out of place.
Positioning the dish on the spare provides a clear view of the sky, and we’ve never noticed any obstruction of signal.
The Dually version raises the unit higher to maintain visibility of a third brake light and even adds storage space for two Starlink Mini battery packs, allowing for a self-contained setup.
What we like most is how this mount takes the guesswork out of where to put the Starlink Mini. It lives on the spare full time, even while at camp.
That means no unpacking, no tripod setup, and no worrying about stowing the dish in transit. When we need a connection, it’s already up and ready.
Our Additions
The mount requires a 2-inch strap for securing to the spare tire. For our 32-inch spare, we found a 10-foot strap from US Cargo Control worked perfectly.
For added convenience, we swapped the included button head hex screws that are used to secure the Starlink Mini in place with convenient thumbscrews, making it a quick, tool-less way to remove the Starlink Mini when necessary.
Depending on your needs, you may opt to keep the more secure button head screws but for ourselves, we like to remove and store the Starlink Mini from the vehicle when we are stopped for extended periods of time in populated areas.
Final Thoughts
Built from powder-coated steel and tested under Baja racing conditions, the High Speed Mounts design has proven both durable and dependable. Bottom line: it’s the best way we’ve found to keep our Starlink Mini mounted, protected, and always ready for use—whether we’re covering miles of rough trail or parked at camp and staying connected without any setup hassle.
